    Tips on changing head gasket

After a lot of messing with the cooling system my overheating problem turned out to be the head gasket, so my task is to change it. Looking at RAVE is useful but not always the best way I have found. Could anyone break down the steps I need to remove and refit? Thanks

    Tips for Viscous fan removal

They put a chemical in the coolant system that changed colour to indicate exhaust gases present I believe.

    Tips for Viscous fan removal

I know it has been a while but I finally got to the bottom of all my troubles. After changing everthing, even water pump and thermostat I got the head gasket tested and found it woefully failing. So next project is changing the head gasket. Thanks for all your help though.

Keep snapping the belt tensioner auxiliary fulcrum

When I'm taking off the tensioner shock absorber it's been ok, but putting it back on levering it into place caused one of the arms on the fulcrum to snap. I ordered a new one and levering it in position I snapped one of the arms again! Now the tensioner shock looks to be now leaking a bit so...

    Tips for Viscous fan removal

UPDATE: So I had a friend of mine put a temp gauge on the radiator when I'd got it hot. It was definitely hot at the top but the bottom was indeed too cool. We wondered whether it was a dud radiator so I rang the company I brought it from and he seemed sure that it was just an air lock. I ran...

    Tips for Viscous fan removal

Ok convincing replies for the fan being the issue. On another note what if the fan oil isn't getting hot enough but the rest of the engine is? Your probably going to say have I checked the top and bottom of the radiator, well yes and both are hot... Sorry just sods law that 2 fans have gone...

Let me just get this straight though, because you guys are saying that as the engine gets hotter the fan will go...

    Tips for Viscous fan removal

Hi Wammers, finally got round to testing it again, had vehicle running nicely at 60 and temp was stable mid way, but stopping the needle started to rise. Got back home and on tick over put the rolled paper in and it stopped... so as you say must be fan. I did have to take it off to get radiator...

    Tips for Viscous fan removal

Thanks for the detailed reply, I think I did squeeze the hoses while filling but haven't checked the baffle thing. If the baffle is missing is that a fault though and I can send it back? Surely they can't work without the baffle... Thanks

So have everything connected as before so assume that includes the baffle, if an air lock how do I find it and remove it? Thanks

Transfer box now not working after clutch change

Transfer box now not working after clutch change

Well I think it is just the big two black connectors that fit together and then attach to a metal clip. I double checked this connector and all looked good. I heard about putting a 12v charge over it to see if it might be a duff motor...

Transfer box now not working after clutch change

So I changed the clutch on my manual 2.5 DSE and obviously had the gearbox out (without breaking) gearbox from transfer box). Trouble is now I now can't select low range however before I had no problem. Any ideas what could have gone wrong? Thanks

    Tips for Viscous fan removal

So just went in another test drive and thrashed it a bit, trouble is temperature started to go up and was close to red so stopped to cool down. Before I changed the radiator I hadn't had any of the usual overheating issues, do you think the previous owner did put a 100% coolant mix in? I just...

    Tips for Viscous fan removal

Thanks again for all your advice, I did actually manage to use a pipe latching device with an extension on the end, then with the spanner on a couple of large whacks did it! What a happy moment that was :) Now paroniod about overheating but first test run was temperature midway and level, my...

    Tips for Viscous fan removal

I've got to replace my radiator and hoped I wouldn't have to remove the fan, but looks like I do. Now I have the diesel 2.5 and the information is a left hand thread. Just for sanity sake I should undo that in a clockwise direction?* I have tried but can't see what I can hold onto to stop it...
