    Emission problems with 1.8

I am glad that my lack of air filter has united the forum !. No my Cat is not rattling & the rest of the exhaust is good.

    Rear Suspension Bushes

Good question. The NCT (our MOT) report says "axle & wishbone bushes" so it could mean some of them or all of them. My interpretation of "wishbone" bushes would be the suspension links. It says that the vehicle will need a repeat of the Side Slip Test.

    Rear Suspension Bushes

According to my test report I have to change my nearside rear "axle & wishbone bushes". According to my trusty Haynes these look easy but experience has taught me that nothing is easy with a Freelander. So any tips ?. Do they come individually or in a set per wheel ?. Is it likely that...

    Emission problems with 1.8

That's why we took three days replacing the head & doing it perfectly including oil rail etc. I am not cutting corners but I am also avoiding having to spend a fortune only to be told that, for example, I need a Cat when there is really little wrong. I plan to change the air filter, run...

    Emission problems with 1.8

Filters as in fuel & air - definitely not for three years !. It may not have points but it does have a rotor arm - if it had points I wouldn't be in this mess !. Would an air filter effect it that much ?. Redex - what memories !. Remove a plug, thimble full of redex & wait for the neighbours...

    Emission problems with 1.8

Serviced ?. A mate & I changed the head, fitted new plugs, cleaned points etc & it runs really well. He worked for LR when they built mine so he feel guilty !. I am wondering if the apparently easily damaged oxy sensor was damaged. Not only does my dealer charge a fortune but has also been...

    Emission problems with 1.8

I want to avoid have to pay my dealer (I am in Ireland) £100 + vat just to give me a false diagnosis.

    Emission problems with 1.8

My 2000 1.8 Freelander has a failed an emissions test with a Lambda of 1.07 (needs to be 0.97 to 1.03) & a CO of .61% (needs to be below .3%). Will I have to go to a main dealer or can any competent mechanic solve this ?

    Engine temperature alarm

It's so easy not to notice the temp gauge rising & £80 is a lot less that a HG. I did have a look at Maplin but I could not see anything that could be adapted to give an audible alarm. One could link a buzzer (with an off switch) to the fan but it would not be as good.

    Engine temperature alarm

I have noticed that some of the Aussie landrover guys fit coolant temperature alarms. Given all the 1.8 freelander problems has anyone tried one of these: Haydn Coolant Alarms - TM-2 Digital Temperture Gauge/Alarm (Powered by CubeCart) Seems like it could be a good idea in that you can...

    Coolant leak by alternator.

I am in Ireland & any garage here will charge the earth to test & skim a head. Then they are likely to say that it's cracked even if it isn't. Also it takes about a week to ten days so vehicle is off the road. I decided that it was better to get a head & uprated gasket to minimise labour time...

    Coolant leak by alternator.

I have been advised by these guys who have been very helpful that it is most likely to be the gasket. R B Lindley & Son, The only garage you will ever need! - 0115 9790818 I have just bought a head & new type gasket. Let me know how you get on.

    Coolant leak by alternator.

My 2000 Freelander 1.8 has a coolant leak that produces a fine spray around the back of the alternator. It seem too high to be HG & is close to the exhaust manifold. Is there anything else, other than cracked head !!!!, around that area that could be leaking ?. There is no evidence of...
