    300TDI newalternator problems? Please help!

Hi, Sounds like a dry joint in the alternator, this could change the loading on the alternator if the stator is powered then not powered, I am guessing a sudden change could cause a noise? Put a volt meter across the - & + contacts on the battery, note the voltage and then start the car and...

    Sluggish disco.........not any more!

Hi, yes I agree, hence "or the original cooler was not efficient enough to cool the air to the most efficient temperature. If the original cooler is designed correctly then you should not see a benefit with a bigger cooler unless you turn up the boost!" I had not forgotten this. In reality I...

    Steering geometry

Hi, Any decent place should be able to set it up. Just tell them to put the steering in neutral by aligning the hole in the pitman arm (Arm on steering box)with the hole in the steering box, then adjust both wheels and then align the steering wheel!

    FYI starting probs 300tdi

Hi folks, sorry to put a downer on this idea as it sounds good, but in practice it is not advisable to constantly trickle charge a Lead Acid battery. It is better to put it on a good overnight charge once in a while. It is complicated, but you will shorten the life of the battery, but look it up...

    Rev counter 300 tdi

Hi Lee, A signal from the alternator provides the revs. Check the alternator connections. If connections are good and it persists then it may be rev counter or alternator. I had the problem when I bought my car and it was a dry joint in the alternator which an auto electrician fixed.

    Death Wobble Persistant issue

Update: I did not get the chance to stand by the roadside and take some photos of the problem whilst someone else drove the car past. On Friday night the car broke down a few miles from home, I had to get a transporter to bring it home. Saturday I investigated and found that the alternator had...

300tdi Which water pump to buy ??

Buy oem, i tried a QH pump and it only lasted 2 mths! Replace P gasket and bolts at the same time if you want peace of mind. Use a non setting gasket sealant not silicone. I recommend Hyloma, its great for oil or water jobs, does not set and will cope with any temperature. Also recommend...

    Death Wobble Persistant issue

Hi, Thanks for all the input. After a review on this site and others of the death wobble issue, it nearly always appears to be swivel pins or panhard rod bushes. Its not either of these on my car, they are definately OK. I am beginning to think after reading another account of a similar issue on...

    Water crossing preparation ????

Hi, some advice from some experienced guys who did one of the longest land trips in a land rover series many years ago comes to mind. Remove or disable the fan! I would fit electric fans and then you can switch them off, but then again they may not work once full of water! General advice - Fit...

    Sluggish disco.........not any more!

Started off reading about the improvements by tweaking the turbo pressure compensator and ended up with a discussion on turbo/intercooler size. Surely the point of the intercooler is to cool the air from the turbo which means it is denser, this allows for more fuel to be added (denser air more...

    Death Wobble Persistant issue

Thanks for your input, I don't think anyone is mad, and will listen to any helpful input, thanks. I have already swapped front and back tyre/wheels and replaced the front tyres and had them re-balanced and tracking done. It all made no difference!

    Death Wobble Persistant issue

Hi, Just re-checked my manual, it definitely says 0 to 2 mm toe out. I only added the toe out to try and prevent wheel shimmy, if thats what the problem is. However, it does not feel any different to drive with the toe out, so will return it to zero. ()

    cambelt query

Hi Paul, I agree with you, its to much of a chance to trust that it has been done as it will wreck your engine if it fails! It is a pain in the backside to do, but not difficult with the right tools. I did my first change for the same reason when I bought my Disco. I would advise that you...

    Death Wobble Persistant issue

Hi, thanks for suggestions. I am sure of quality of workmanship as I do everything myself. The parts are bought from UK so should be good although not too sure about Britparts. The problem occurs as soon as I get up to speed and hit a small bump, its not linked to distance traveled but seems to...

Why did you buy a disco!!

I only bought a Disco because I had no idea how badly made Land rovers are and I have paid for the mistake ever since. However, I am determined not to be beaten by this piece of absolute c**p with the constant oil leaks, overheating, radiator cracks/leaks, expansion tank leaks, warped cylinder...

any help on how to turn up boost on turbo

Hi, Adjust the wastegate rod, but you are advised to supply more fuel as well or you are wasting your time. To do this you can adjust the boost compensator on top of the fuel pump. The exact directions of how to tune the pump for more power are avilable on the net. Search for tuning the bosch VE...

    Death Wobble Persistant issue

Hi Johnlad, Thank you for your reply, I am not discounting this chain of thought but how do the engine mounts cause steering wobble or heavy vibration on the suspension? I must admit that they have been covered in oil and hot leaking coolant enough times to have degraded but i don't see a link?

    Death Wobble Persistant issue

Hi Members, I have a persistant problem that I am desperate to cure. My 1998 Disco 300TDI () is suffering from severe shaking at speeds above 100kph when it hits a small bump. This is so severe that it feels like the front axle is being torn off! The only way to stop it is to slow down...

Cellular Dynamic steering dampers - worth it?

Hi, I bought one of these Britpart steering Dampers (Foam - Cellular dynamic) and new front shocks two years ago. Within months the rubber bushings provided (yelow polyurethane?) fell apart and had to be replaced. I have recently had severe vibration in the car and removed the steering...
