    Death Wobble Persistant issue

Thanks Mr. Noisy! I might try something along the lines of the panhard rod modification. I had the car jacked up again the other day and inspected all ball joints, bushes and bolts. No problems found. I also checked the swivel play and found it was the same as I had adjusted it to previously...

    Why am I skidding?

Jack up car at back and check brakes are fully released! When driving under power the wheels will rotate, but if brakes are sticking, when you take your foot off the gas the wheels could drag on a slippery surface. This will make the car feel very lively.

    Overheating Disco 300tdi

Just a thought but sounds like intermittent thermostat problem. Easy to check and fix. Just feel the big top hose out of the engine, it will be cold after just starting but should warm up once the engine is hot. If the engine is hot(on temp guage) and the hose is cold the thermostat is not...

    Death Wobble Persistant issue

Ok, my appologies for the break, I have not abandoned the quest to correct the wobble! I have been away on Christmas holiday. To recap, I have removed the steering damper and some shims from the pivot bearings. This has resulted in a slight improvement at lower speeds but still have the wobble...

    Britpart Alternator AMR4249

Yes it is posted three times, sorry about that, but its hidden in two other threads. I then considered it might benefit others more if it was in its own thread. I buy some cheap stuff for the disco because there are some good quality cheap bits out there. I also buy more expensive parts when I...

    Brake Pads

I have bought 12 quid pads from Paddocks and have used a couple of sets with absolutely no problems. I don't drive fast, but have hauled some serious weight around. I give them a thumbs up. Added brake info - I have rebuilt the brake master cylinder and replaced all hoses with Goodridge...

    Britpart Alternator AMR4249

After giving some advice on a forum the other week my own alternator failed. No problem I thought, a friend ordered one up from the UK for only 45 quid plus post. (I live 8000 miles away). When it arrived it was a Britpart, my friend apologized as I have previously said some abusive things about...

    Death Wobble Persistant issue

Back on track at last. After adjusting the pivot bearings and replacing the alternator I took the Disco out for a drive. I had a friend with a video in a car in front. Unfortunately the video was not good enough to see the wobble when it occurred, but my friend did notice that it was shimmy not...

    Death Wobble Persistant issue

Hi, the pre-load was set to about 1.5kg pull off when I changed the bearings. I have now set it to approx 2.5 kg. It was consistent about the whole turn angle when originally set but had slackened off around the middle position.

    Death Wobble Persistant issue

Hi guys and girls, still on track with this. Just waiting to get new alternator to investigate further. In the mean time, I have removed shims from both pivot bearings to stiffen up the hubs, this really goes against my usual standards, as these were set up perfectly in accordance with the...

    Alternator rebuild

Hi, Just dismantled mine for front bearing failure, I used a pencil type blowtorch. If you put a little flux on the solder it will help the solder flow as you melt it. My stator had shorted to earth so knackered, however here in Brunei they will rewind it! Just as well as a new alternator here...

    Water crossing preparation ????

Hi mister helpful, the LR Disco does not have bearing buddies which keep the grease under pressure, so when the hubs cool the grease fills the void left by air, or the spring pressure keeps the hub full of grease at all times, (although unless you assembled the hub in a vacuum there will be air...

    Injector pump rebuild kit

Hi, I have done the job, the trick is to mount the pump pulley end down in a B & D Workmate or vice, remove the head very slowly and carefully as bits will fall out if you don't. I would be surprised if the head is worn, are you sure it was not the solenoid valve that is above the head that was...

    300TDI newalternator problems? Please help!

Hi Dale, If that relay is next to the fuse box its the Glow plug relay, so no effect on the alternator. It certainly sounds like the alternator is playing up to me, as it should not be cycling up and down like that. Regards

300tdi Which water pump to buy ??

Can any one confirm who the OEM was for the water pump, I bought my pump here in Brunei and it had a QH box, it looked cheap and nasty and only lasted two months before the bearings and the seal had gone. It was not the same as the one in LR box that I later fitted! The Impellor was different...

    Starter solenoid replacement question?

Hi, just a word of warning, I replaced the starter solenoid on my 98 300TDI, the new item fitted ok and worked fine, that is until the engine got hot, then the car would not start. After much investigation I found that the new solenoid was getting hot and the center push rod was jamming in the...
