4HP24 slow upshift 3 - 4 Torque converter or transmission?

Thanks guys - the previous owner didn't seem to scrimp on servicing going by the invoices, so I'd assume it has been done. I'm only covering between 6-8K annual miles currently so had planned a good service before the winter anyway. Will add a bottle of Lucus transmission fix to my shopping...

4HP24 slow upshift 3 - 4 Torque converter or transmission?

I have been experiencing some strange up-shift issues on a 4HP24 box since early last week (there but less noticeable on down-shift). Initially, a couple of occasions where shift seemed to delay (revs rise higher than usual and slower shift), but by the weekend this had become regular. I would...

What did you do with your Range Rover today

Got to car tonight in work car park only to find remote unlock didn't work. Both fobs recently refurbished and LED was flashing but to no effect from any angle/location. Uh-oh - flat battery? Gingerly opened drivers door with key, lights were in off position and ignition barrel was...

Hope you weren't working under there with just a jack! Sympathise with the cold & wet - it ALWAYS p*sses down when I need to work on the cars...

    12 month on...

First must apologise as not been very active here for a while - too many projects, too much work and not enough time... :o I've now had the P38 for just over a year and thought that warranted a brief update. So, the big question of what broke in that time first... Well, the grand sum of 1...

    First 'breakdown'...

:D The anticipation is almost as bad as the breakdown TBH! It's not actually the only thing to go wrong - there's a few 'niggles', but it's the first potentially stranding event. (Apart from one 'almost fire' - but that was in the driveway so doesn't count! :p)

    First 'breakdown'...

Well, the inevitable happened today so at least now I can relax rather than all that anticipation over what, where and when it would happen... It's been a good run of reliability for a P38 - perhaps even a record as I purchased in February? But en-route to dropping son at holiday club today...

What mileage is your Range Rover P38 on? (1994 to 2002)

'97 HSE 4.6 on LPG - just shy of 192,700... (New engine at 97K)

    Story so far..... MPG Diesel

Interesting to see the various figures on these as I was originally looking for Diesel when I purchased my 4.6 HSE. (I probably would have except I couldn't find a decent one at a good price.) My HSE has a sequential LPG and does 10-13mpg around town and with a careful right foot 20-22mpg is...

    Unfortunate Damage To Glass

I hope for their sake you don't find those responsible! I think I'd do similar damage to said skulls on some 'attitude recalibration'...

Ah-ha! I like the thinking - so much easier when you get a few bits out of the way too! (I need to do manifold gaskets and they've been waiting weeks for a big enough time-slot to remove all the bits in the way... :o)

Silly afterthought, but have you run the gear selector through the range or tried in neutral as well as park? I could be a faulty/stuck/loose inhibitor switch on the gear selector... Had that one with an XJ6 that didn't always register in park - pull through the gears and back usually sorted...

Agreed. I can't think that new battery on jump leads + existing battery wouldn't be enough juice to get a crank. Jump leads would have to be pretty low gauge to drop voltage that much. Looks like starter solenoid to me or other electrical/immobiliser fault. :(

Agreed, but most booster packs have tiny 12Ah gel batteries and with only 12.3V on the main one he'll struggle to get 12.5V with a boost. Should be more like 12.8~13.2V if he's just charged it I'd say?
