    :D Hadn't thought of that!

What did you do with your Range Rover today

Starter motor died in Plympton :( After abandoning for the day whilst working, I persevered for 5 minutes prior to calling the AA for recovery home. After a number of attempts where the starter mustered about a half turn, one of those half turns obviously coincided with a spark at the right...

    v8 4.0 hot start problem

Oddly, mine does that occasionally. Until recently, it only seems to do at the garage that I use for LPG. I also found (by accident) that disconnecting the air intake from the air filter box for 10-20 seconds and reconnecting resulted in starting at first turn of the key - even when I'd been...

Looks good! You got your money's worth out of those springs... ;)

What did you do with your Range Rover today

I thought that when I got her, but doesn't overheat - even when towing the boat/other cars etc and I've not got around to removing yet. There's a long list of other fixes first: Gearbox, headlining, n/s heated seat, sticky blend motors and a good service (inc diff oils, new rear callipers and a...

What did you do with your Range Rover today

Nothing. For probably only about the 5th day in 2 years & 2 months of ownership, she sat on the drive today and went nowhere whilst I cut the hedge, erected scaffolding and prepared to start painting the back of the house. No doubt there will be hell to pay tomorrow and she'll be sulking...

    Falken tyres

The life of the Falkens was 50% of the BFGs. Can't speak for the Wildpeak AT, but the ones on the Disco were a pretty soft compound. I used the Disco 90~95% on road, so the BFG was a good choice when available.

    Falken tyres

I have used the brand on a Disco 1 when I couldn't get BFGs. They were ok for that, although much faster wear. At half the cost however probably not a bad deal? Not tried on the P38 - that's on AT Grabbers.

But did you wave when you passed him at the filling station? :D

It's official, my P38 is properly sulking. BECM now?

Hi Guy, First thing I'd do is a jump lead from battery -ve to engine block, reconnect battery and see what happens. I've seen all sorts of weird faults when there's a resistance in the earthing and you get can get increased current and odd failures in places that don't make any sense! It's an...

4HP24 slow upshift 3 - 4 Torque converter or transmission?

That's just the labour, so likely £400 ish with oil, filter etc. Not a main dealer or LR specialist, but they're very good/fair. I guess the thought of £300 hurts and makes me think I can do it in 4 for just the cost of the oil, filter etc... :D (Plus the fact that I'm unemployed for a couple...

4HP24 slow upshift 3 - 4 Torque converter or transmission?

Thanks, I'll look out for that! :) I thought it would be a bit more too and I'm guessing that's a dry weight, but guess it won't be far off - found on a BMW site and as far as I'm aware the weights will be close. Not really looking forward to the job, but local garage reckon 8 hours/£300 to...

4HP24 slow upshift 3 - 4 Torque converter or transmission?

Yes, thanks. I'd need to do that anyway as the replacement would be the auto box only so would re-use the transfer. It looks like the transmission weighs in at around 76kg, so thought it would be doable, but lifting is one thing, balancing whilst laying under the motor and aligning bolts is...

Can a leaking vapouriser seem like a Head Gasket?

    Indeed! Fingers are crossed...

New Cats and lambdas causing heavy misfire and loss of idle...?

Have you got a diagnostic? (I think they will show this won't they?) If not you should be able to test with a volt meter - a long while since I looked, but believe the usual practice with Oxygen sensors is a low voltage output for lean and a higher voltage for rich. I think the output would...

Can a leaking vapouriser seem like a Head Gasket?

There should be a solenoid shutting off the LPG supply when the system is set to petrol. This should be before the vapouriser (probably at the tank) so there shouldn't be any gas to leak when on petrol... Kooky_Guy, all that time, the Audi and the BM - and it wasn't the HG after all??? :(

4HP24 slow upshift 3 - 4 Torque converter or transmission?

Well, the gearbox is no better and with some long road trips coming up towing, I need to sort this. Last day of work tomorrow before 2 weeks off and some job hunting, so an opportunity to fix. 2 bottles of Lucas haven't fixed yet. Going to order another filter and bottle of Lucas for next...

4HP24 slow upshift 3 - 4 Torque converter or transmission?

That's my plan. I put the front on ramps to pull as much back as I could from the cooler, but didn't really want to take that out too due to time. I'll flush again in a couple of weeks after I've treated and might then look to drain more. Given the state of it a couple of extra changes won't...

4HP24 slow upshift 3 - 4 Torque converter or transmission?

New oil in, but had to order the Lucas, so probably won't get until Monday... 5.25L of old oil drained and 5L new oil in, so will test as is and if ok, leave the .25L until the Lucas goes in to save having to drain some out... Waiting for it to settle before I fire up and check level. Thanks...

4HP24 slow upshift 3 - 4 Torque converter or transmission?

Well how wrong was I? The oil in the dipstick may have been pink, but that in the gearbox certainly wasn't! Perhaps it's 1997 oil after all...
