Does anyone know why some LWB series have fuel tank at the back and some under seat? Was there a year change or just customer order when new? Petrol/Diesel? Any help appriciated.

Hello to everyone. I recently acquired an early S3 LWB which ive steadily started restoring. Its a 2.25 diesel with a turbo conversion. Not had it running yet but hope to soon. Not that it will last long with all that pressure! Hopefully i wont ask too many stupid questions!
