    Tricky one...

I was expecting the v8 to be a lot better on the road. Think it'd have to be a manual so it wouldn't slow down on the hills so much. Just wondering weather a v8 or tdi would pull the bigger tyres better. Would love a v8 just really don't understand how they can be the same on insurance as a tdi.

    17 yr old td5 insurance

Trouble is though is my mini is just shy of £3000 to insure for a year with my 52yr old dad as a named driver and a gay smart box thing. A 300tdi/v8i disco is around the £4600 mark so in my eyes if its going to be my first car that I will most likely crash in I'd rather it be a 2.5l 300tdi. But...

    Tricky one...

Lordwolf: yeah I do see what your saying, either way though if its a tdi or v8 they will be suspicious Nfwilliams: if I could insure a v8 for the same price as a tdi that would be my choice no matter what. But I also see where your coming from when you say you'd put a 300 tdi I'm it if your v8...

    Tricky one...

I got quoted £4000 fully comp on a 300tdi that was on my own insurance policy (not a named driver) I then got quoted £2000 for a 998cc austin mini. Either way if I'm a named driver on my 52 yr old dads insurance it should drop the price a fair bit. Really do want a landy as a first car

    Tricky one...

Cheer diff, I believe LPG is cheaper than unleaded and yeah people are saying the v8 discos are cheap than the tdi on insurance for some reason. I do love v8's however it's back to the old story of a tdi being virtually bullet proof and the deep water doesn't seem to affect them where as a v8...

    Tricky one...

May not be the appropriate location for this thread but I was unsure where to post it. So the disco 1 has a various choice of configurations. We got the 200/300tdi auto/manual and the v8 auto/manual. Any idea what it would cost to run a v8 on LPG and what configuration would be best suited...

Indeed, I need a station wagon 90 because of this god damned low emission zone as well, slightly more expensive all round :-(

Yeah it's all been juggled around and drivers added etc etc. Gave Adrian flux a ring and got through to Ed. Odds of that aye? Very helpful guy and has really boosted my understanding of insurance. Highly recommend Adrian flux, seem to be the cheapest quotes I can get. Got a quote for a mini of...

Flat: I wouldn't buy a land rover if I was quoted that sort of money throughout but as I've been quoted £4083 there must be a few different ways of getting the price of the premium down, weather it be having to buy a 300tdi defender/disco or a v8idisco/range rover

Bencorkil: yeah that's what im starting to think, it could be a old v8i disco or a v8 range rover. I like the sound of either jus don't know what would look best :/ admiral quoted £51,000 for a td5 defender but it might be worth a go with a v8 just to see what the difference is. Going to try...

I have Adrian flux a ring and got quoted £4083 for a 1999 td5 defender 90 station wagon. I'm going to give them a ring again tomorrow to get a quote for a 300tdi defender and disco then a v8 disco and td5 disco. See how things go, I really want a landy now and so far Adrian flux is the most...

    17 yr old td5 insurance

Cheers for all that information guys, currently my insurance on a 1340cc mini is around £1000-£2000 if I were to insure that when I can drive so having a 2.5 td5 for around the same price sounds a lot more appealing to me. Sure the mini is faster and corners better but the fact of owning a land...

My dad is with admiral for his nissan navara (sorry for swearing) and yeah that did help a fair bit, maybe I could be a named driver on a multi car policy if push came to shove. Thanks Golding

Yeah I'm going to have a ring around some different insurance companies tomorrow to see what I will be able to insure a td5 for. Cheers goonarmy

    17 yr old td5 insurance

My dad has a 200tdi which I might use that for a bit but the idea of a td5/300tdi sounds so good and they can't be much more to insure than a 2.5NA

I know it's actually terrible, thanks mate. It would be nice to own a td5 and be driving it around at the age of 17

    17 yr old td5 insurance

Ed: I understand where your coming from but the difference between insuring a 1.3 mini and a td5 defender can't be a dramatic increase in insurance cost to be honest. The problem is I've been bought up around Land rovers. My dad has had 6 brand new land rovers since I was born so it is in my...

I know there are loads of threads about young land rover drivers and insurance but none of them seem to be insuring td5's ? I'm not 17 yet but I have a 1982 1340 austin mini as a first car at the moment. However I've been bought up around land rovers and I'm starting to like the idea of selling...
