    Td5 or tdci vote

I'm after people personal opinions, I drove a td5 the other day at an offroad site however it wasn't in the best condiditon at all, seemed to be burning a hell of a lot of oil and the gearbox was really tight compared to our tdi. I've also drive the tdci off road and as nice as it is to drive...

    Td5 or tdci vote

Hi guys, done a similar post a few weeks ago but didn't gather the info/research I required, I'm after finding out which engine you prefer for on the road in daily use around town and on some long journeys. So if you don't mind could you state which engine you prefer with a reason. Kind...

    TD5 vs TDCI

My dad has a 2008 tdci 110 crew cab and have had few problems with it yet. However it has covered only 10,000 miles. We had a 2002 td5 90 previous to that and it was nothing but problems however it never physically stopped and when it was running correctly it was a nice experience. I kind of...

    TD5 vs TDCI

I believe the earlier ones did have a few teething problems thats for sure and yes the 110 utility should have cheaper insurance due to it being a commercial vehicle

    TD5 vs TDCI

Unfortunately im still in the process of selling my mini and buying a landy but i've come to a slight issue. I had a drive of a Td5 110 the other day and then drove my dads Tdci and it kind of made me want a Tdci for the better road driving. Seems to be my choices are either a late Td5...

    Cruising speed

Thanks, arboorman, when/if i get a td5 defender i might look into getting a overdrive, how easy are they to fit and how much did it cost you ? However i can see the appeal of a overdrive but having the disco transfer box shouldnt affect me that much as im not planing on towing heavy loads...

    Cruising speed

Thanks for all the great feedback guys, does the standard td5 feel like its comfortable cruising at 70? I feel the td5 always tends to rev more than it should perhaps some larger tyres, better transfer box ratios and maybe some tuning mods to pull it properly would do the trick. I need to start...

    Cruising speed

Hi all, had a search around to see what cruising speed people feel comfortable with in their td5 defenders. I'm looking to buy one but am worried when doing motorway journeys it will be screaming its nuts off. So what kind of cruising speeds/rpm are people getting from their td5 defenders? Also...

    Just out of curiosity

Yeah later models are fine at the moment but I don't want to get caught out so I figured that a csw would be my best bet but will probably buy a panel van as I do prefer them

    Just out of curiosity

I'm kind of in the same price bracket as yourself around the 6-7k mark, only difference is in my case it all depends if my mini sells and what it goes for. Ideally a csw would last longer because i live in the low emission zone and they count as cars apparently. However i prefer the look of the...

Thanks wickford90 you've been a great help. Will let you know when I get one, thanks again for all the help. Regards, Matt.

    Just out of curiosity

Oil in the ecu, issues with lack of power in colder temperatures and replacing the injector loom often. I have heard a few but like you say how exaggerated is the problems and was they just a dodgy motor to start with. How they have been looked after also plays a big part in how they run as well...

    Just out of curiosity

Obviously it all depends on maintainence but generally a newer td5 (say an 04 plate td5) against a newish tdi the td5 would be easier to find in good nick. I think I would need a td5 after the year of 2003, they are supposed to have most of the issues cured. Td5 is my favourite landy engine as...

    Just out of curiosity

So I'm buying a land rover defender 90 station wagon but I'm stuck between a 300tdi and a td5 obviously the td5 is a new vehicle therefore has a higher spec and will be more rust free but I have heard some nasty reliability stories. On the other hand a 300tdi I renound for its reliability which...

    Td5

I do love the td5 engine, my dads old one is for sale at the moment and I was considering buying it back however he really doesn't want me to because it was just so much trouble
  16. M

    Td5

I agree, my dad bought that td5 from new though and it couldn't of had a better life. It was more of a toy than anything but can with all those problems plus the doors would never shut, they just bounced back open.
  17. M

    Td5

Either defender or discovery, as they both have the same engine they will have some of the same problems in common ? Ideally a defender was in mind, my dad said his old td5 defender was hard work. He had two ecu's, all the injectors renewed, it has a sticky ingector on the third cylinder and if...

    Td5

So I've heard a few bad rumours about the td5 engines. What's your verdict on the engine and have you had any bad experiences with them ? I'm after buying a td5 and I'm just looking for common problems with the engine so I know what to look out for. Also what are they like when they're tuned ...

    17 yr old td5 insurance

2.0_hippo: that's exactly my point. A lot of young drivers own minis, clios etc. how many young drivers do you see wit a defender. And sure I know people are going to say that's because they are generally expensive. But I think it's doable ?

    17 yr old td5 insurance

I see where everyone is coming from, I do love the old series 3's and 2's to be fair however if I can get a 300tdi or even a td5 then without a doubt I would get one. Also I can't have a panel van where I live due to being located on the border of the low emission zone -.- hence the idea of a...
