New tip or old school been done before

Thanks for the replies. I use the two old bearing races as drifts to drive in the new bearing races. I grind at least 1mm around the whole circumference of both the races so they dont snag in the housing. Line up the new bearing race with one old ground race on top, tap around with a hammer...

New tip or old school been done before

I dont know if this has been done before, i have never seen it. I was putting in new wheel bearings in the front of my ninety. Looking around for something big enough to drift the seal into the rear of the disc/bearing housing. I looked at the thick drive flange laying on the wing of the land...

    Front axle play?

All done now. Absolutly no knocks in the transmission. Replaced half shafts and CV's. What was causing the death rattle in the steering was that the nearside lower swivel pin had sheared off at the point where it joins the flange where it bolts on. This ruined the top pin as well where it had...

    Front axle play?

Tnx. There is always something to work on!!!!!!!!!! Whilst underneath i noticed a rust hole in the middle cross member, so after this job i will have to investigate further:o

    Front axle play?

At last i have got around to sorting out this problem with the front axel, Its taken me ages to tackle it cause other things have taken priority like changing my transfere box back to original defender ratio to make it better for towing. Anyway, i had a spare diff and shafts from a disco one 24...

Before I buy a new bearing assembly - some diagnosis please...

Thanks for the above replies. Will check the swivel pins when i strip it down, hopefully it will be just a shim removal job.

Before I buy a new bearing assembly - some diagnosis please...

What do you mean by the "three amigoes moving in" About three weeks ago before going on holiday i had jacked up the front of the ninety and had movement top to bottom. I knew the front bearings were getting a bit worn out, so i tightened up the big hub nuts just to get rid of the slack whilst i...

    Kwik-Fit Slap Hammer my brakes?

As above. I had this once, when i got the drum off i ground the lip away and the drum goes on and off without problems.

    Front axel innards

I have a defender 90 and also have the innards of a diso 1 front axel. What i am wondering is, could i put the diff from the disco in (24 spline) also put the half shafts including CV joint and stub axels with the thin drive flanges. Would it all work out the right length? At the moment it has...

    Air filters

Yes, I have the K&N service kit which includes the cleaner and oiling solutions. I have just been on the K&N site to confirm it is the washable type and it is. So maybe there is another reason why it started smoking a bit. At least with the K&N fitted i can here the turbo winding up so there...

    Air filters

Hmmmm maybe i am oiling the wrong type then its this type of filter, am i oiling the wrong sort. I remember from my motox days and cars that had twin 45's with foam sock filters on that we used to oil them so have i got this wrong?

    Air filters

K&N type cone filters or paper filters, whats the preference? ever since putting a cone filter on it seems to black smoke when "lugging" up from pull away or when the turbo cuts in going up hill. I have done the necessary backing off the fuel pump, but is the filter restricting the airflow too...

What have you done to your Landie today.

Turned the fuel pump down on my defender 90 with 200tdi. Been smoking a bit under load and the guy who had it before me had turned up the pump to the max so got to the star wheel and put more tension on the spring to allow the turbo to wind up a bit more before the fuell is delivered.

    Fitting 200 tdi radiator

Well what a wally:frusty: When will i learn to check. If you look at the fitting thats gold coloured thats the one that came on the new radiator, the silver one is the one that was on my old radiator. So what i did by mistake was try to fit my tapered pipes onto a fitting that is for "O" rings...

    Fitting 200 tdi radiator

Just been out and looked at the old radiator. Where the pipe fits into the rad there is a taper so i assumed it was like a brake pipe fitting. Looking at the haynes manual i can see the type of fitting with an "O" ring where there is a sleeve and collar on the pipe that the "O" ring butts up...

What mileage is your Tratter on?

Who can tell ? mines a nintey with a 200tdi engine in but its only young at 26 years old. By the time i bought it who can tell how many transplants its had. Thats the booty of landrovers, you can change so many bits in them:D

    Fitting 200 tdi radiator

Thinking about it should i have put thread tape on the oil connectors? is that standard practice? Still seems to be weeping a bit but that could be just residue from the big dump it had and covered the front chassis and cross member. Like i said, dont want to put too much tension on the plastic...
