Here is a very good explanation of how vacuum advance works, or doesn't. https://www.motortrend.com/how-to/1601-everything-you-wanted-to-know-about-vacuum-advance-and-ignition-timing/

I have suggested this before, but I am going to suggest it again. Pull the vacuum advance tube off the distributor, and drive it. See what difference it makes. It could get better or worse. But try driving it just as you mentioned in the three ways above, If it is no different you will know...

Can you be a bit more specific about how it feels wrong? And by the way, I had mine on a rolling road, paid lots of dosh for it, the guy did change the needle a few times and the readings he gave me were very good. But it never drove as well as I felt it should, although it sure did go quick...

Disco 2 Why is so much heat coming on the drivers side from the console?

Have you got out and under the car to see if there are any holes under there? TBH it isn't anywhere near the exhaust which runs along the nearside . We have to assume your car is right hand drive as if it isn't and you are burning your left leg you REALLY have a problem. 🤣 TBH it really does...

Kit car builders have to do summat like this. We tend to just use a coupla long studs with hooks on the end, drill two holes in the ends of a piece of angle iron. Make holes where you want em, then pop the hooks in them, top end in the angle iron, a couple of lock nuts, Bob's yer aunty! But then...

    Disco 2 Boost! (Lack thereof)

I think I may have been over-egging the pudding there. If there was no oil to the turbo, it's bearings would be nearly non-existent and it would fry. But it is still interesting that it gets so hot so quickly.

My first two cars were both Minis. 850 de luxes, the first one was bought on my behalf by my mother as I was working antisocial hours so couldn't go looking. she paid half as much again as I said was my max, and bought a Mini that had just had a "blow over". They must have laughed! I was then...

Knew you'd have trouble wiv the helicoil. They is a total pain. I have had the bolt go round and round taking the helicoil with it so you couldnt get the blasted thing out to remove whatever you want to remove, without cutting the head off the bolt.:mad: But very glad you have sorted out...

We got one too, works fine. The password, as you've probably already found is on a removable plastic tab on the back so at least you take it away and sit down with your machines and do the biz. Unless the noo model don't have it in which case..... time to write it down.:eek::eek:
