my landrover series 3 restoration project

Today I was making a start on replacing my clutch. I'm going to use an eezibleed kit which attaches to a tyre for pressure (never used one, are they any good?). In checking out my spare I found something quite interesting... The tyres at each corner are 205R16s and the one on the bonnet is a...

If you're getting a garage to do it then yes, fairly costly.

Is it just me or do you have two different sizes of tyre on the front there?

    Leaky clutch

Fair enough, but how do I tell whether it is the master cylinder that's leaking?

    Leaky clutch

Hi All, It seems my clutch has sprung a leak. There is clutch fluid running (slowly) down the back of the clutch pedal. It's lost about 30-40ml in about 2 weeks, so it's not terminal, but not sure where to start looking to find out where the leak is or how to fix it. Any suggestions for a...

    Canvas tilt care ?

There are various canvas waterproofing and preservation products on the market, but they tend to be quite expensive. A more natural alternative is a good coating of lanolin. A natural extract from sheeps wool which is often used in soap. Avoid using linseed oil at all costs!

    Air filter roar

Thanks all. The pictures and everything are awesome. I think I'll have to put up with a bit of roar until I can find an original unit in decent condition complete with mounting bracket. I still want to restore the original oil bath one, but will just have to be more patient. I'm just not good...

    Air filter roar

OK, so I assume there are supposed to be things to mount the original air filter, in which case they are missing. It also seems that the original parts are no longer available other than via eBay and I tend not to trust that as a source of things unless I have no choice. So, people have...

    Air filter roar

Hi All, I have a very different air filter and it's generating a LOT of induction roar. I've attached a picture. I'm considering restoring the original air filter with oil bath, but despite having trawled through the parts catalogue I can't find the bits I'll need listed. I've read the...

    Drain and fill

All sorted. Used a small cold chisel and an adjustable wrench to remove the transfer box drain plug. The fill plug on it was a pig, but got there in the end. Thanks for the assistance all.

    Brake light adjustment

Thanks oxides, yet again fantastic assistance. All fixed and sorted. It was indeed in the engine compartment. 1/8th turn and the brake lights work as expected :) I've now book marked the PDFs you linked and will refer there in future rather than my crappy Haynes manual.

    Brake light adjustment

Could be but I have no idea what I'm looking for :S When I do find it I have no idea how to make it more sensitive, i.e. make the lights on on sooner/with less pedal travel. As I mentioned before, the Haynes manual, which used to be good back in the days when I rebuilt mini's, is appallingly...

    Brake light adjustment

Hi All, Just found out that my brake lights do work, but only when I push a long way down on the peddle. I don't normally have cause to break that hard since I use engine breaking mostly. Is there any way I can adjust the point at which the brake lights come on? As a reminder, this is a late...

    Drain and fill

Is there any way to flush the oil in the diffs? Without a strip down and rebuild that is. I've drained the diffs and the crap that's coming out looks like mud :S Can't help feeling it would be best to flush it a little iff possible. Any and all suggestions very much appreciated.

    Drain and fill

Ah, sounds like a plan, thanks oxides, will give that a try.

    Drain and fill

Fair point, but I'm kind of out of ideas :S Any suggestions where I can get some 4mm steel plate I can turn into a tool? Wonder if I can make it with a dremmel :S

    Drain and fill

Thanks for the confirmation. I had kind of come to the conclusion that was likely the case. It just didn't feel right. Yeah, have one of the slot ones on the bottom of my transfer box. Don't have any steel plate or angle iron so no idea how the hell I'm going to get it off yet. Any chance a 2p...
