Building the gearbox of my dreams

The ability to put it back to standard quite easily is the attraction of the Roamerdrive. I'll keep plugging away at her (or more than likely do what I did with my last Defender and had a remap, decat and centre box removal whilst she was away and didn't tell her. The first time she drove it...

Building the gearbox of my dreams

I've been meaning to ask how the Roamerdrive is going. I'm slowly getting through to the other half that we really need one, but it's tough going. She likes to leave cars standard and if something goes wrong with a car she always blames anything that I have just done to it for it, even if it's...

Anyone fitted Ford Cosworth Recaro's into a Defender ?

I put Rover 800 Vitesse Recaros into a previous 110 also with a cubby box. I imagine they are a similar size. With a bit of fabricating I made them so they were held down at the front with wingnuts and were hinged at the rear so you still had easy access to the battery box

    2003 TD5 Fuel leak.

Does it leak mainly when the tank is full? If so check the fuel filler breather pipe which has a habit of splitting where it fits on top of the tank.

    Door Trim Yellow Door Clips

Use screws as in this thread http://www.aulro.com/afvb/projects-tutorials/70778-defender-door-trim-fastener-fix.html (you may need to register to see the photos)

    Side Window Demisting

How about a holder for a Nanocom? I removed the ashtray and mount and used to wedge the Nanocom diagonally across the hole. I have made a holder from a chunk of wood but have decided to re-do it to orient it towards the driver.

Thanks for the reply. Now the really hard work - persuading the other half that we need one :eek:

Building the gearbox of my dreams

Thanks for the reply Brown. I'll crawl back underneath at the weekend, weather permitting, and take a closer look at all the gubbins. My handbrake cable is very stiff and when I was looking the other day I thought it would be extremely awkward to persuade it to move. May I ask where did you...

Building the gearbox of my dreams

Brown, thanks for keeping us updated on this mod. I must say you are more daring than I would be to take the transfer box apart - bolt on is about my limit (and even then I can manage to cock it up :(). I was underneath the Landy yesterday trying to free off a slightly sticky handbrake and saw...

How is the selection of the overdrive unit now? Has it eased up with use at all?

Building the gearbox of my dreams

I've followed a few of your trips on here, and I know the feeling about going for another gear :(. I've been considering a few things: a Disco transfer box but feel this would need a remap (which is on the cards anyway, just don't tell the other half) to keep the 'performance', the Ashcroft...

Building the gearbox of my dreams

I've been thinking of getting one of the Roamerdrives on my 110 as I plan on keeping it a while and we generally do a 4000 mile round trip on the motorways across Europe to visit the other half's family every summer. It would be nice to cut the revs down a bit. Hurry up and get it done as I'm...

    Egr removal causing over boost?

I'm wondering if the boost had been turned up a bit to overcome a blocked cat, and now that it's flowing more freely it may be too much for it leading to limp mode? I had a BMW 5 series de-catted and de-dpf'd and the remap I had with that actually turned down the boost pressure quite a bit to...

    Egr removal causing over boost?

Yes, that was the issue raised, but the OP said that the vacuum pipe is open at one, so, as it's part of the brake vacuum circuit, I thought it may be useful to raise this as a side effect
  15. J

    Egr removal causing over boost?

I believe the vacuum pipes for the EGR valve work on the same vacuum circuit that goes to the brakes so if there's an open end on the pipe it may affect the vacuum to the brake servo. Have you noticed any change in braking efficiency at all? I've seen somewhere (that I can't find now) that...

    Software updating

Couldn't you read and save the remap on the Nanocom and then load it back up once the ECU has been updated? Quite surprised they have a software update for the TD5 engine 9 years after they stopped producing it though

    Td5's & water?

I tend to use those 2 fords quite often when going to and from St Albans from home. It's not a short cut but is far more fun than driving down the main road :D

Is a relay needed for 120w LED light bar?

If that's a 42" light bar then you have a veeeeeerrrrrrryyyyyyy wide Defender ;)

    This happened today :(

There are times in life, when someone has had what they describe as 'the scariest moment of (their) life' (post 3), when it's better to not raise apprehension any more. To raise a concern is reasonable, and Jo acknowledged that concern, but insisting that 5h1t will happen in time is taking it...

    This happened today :(

I cannot speak for Jo, but if I were in her position I wouldn't want to read your self opinionated crap at this time. Don't you think she's been through enough without your Doomsday approach. You should learn when to keep your (metaphorical) mouth shut, but in reality I bet you are wishing for...
