    Early Defender TD5 Remap Question

Ahh. So it turns out my 2000 TD5 has a NNN500020 ECU. Which it isn’t supposed to have but I guess must have been swapped at some point. So that’s good news I think - these ones are flashable aren't they?

    Early Defender TD5 Remap Question

Thanks Lightning - I emailed Dynachip about a month ago and tried calling today (number seemed to be disengaged). But will try them again as they seem to be rated very highly.

    Early Defender TD5 Remap Question

Hi all. There are lots of threads on TD5 remaps etc but I can't find an answer to my specific question anywhere. I am considering having my TD5 remapped - but its a 2000 model so will actually need to be chipped. The new map will be on the new chip. My question is - is the new chip then...

New rear halfshaft - now have awful grinding noise!

I think all the TD5's are one piece. 2 piece again from Puma I think.

New rear halfshaft - now have awful grinding noise!

I'm prepared for some very minor surgery with my grinder at the weekend. And it should only be very minor - the new ones really do look the same as the old ones by eye - but I'll do some careful measurement this weekend and I'll let you all know what the outcome is. I'm a dab hand at doing them...

New rear halfshaft - now have awful grinding noise!

Yep. New flange gasket is fitted. Funnily there was no gasket fitted on the rears when I removed the old ones. Neither side had leaked at all though. One piece flange and half-shafts on the rear.

New rear halfshaft - now have awful grinding noise!

It went in ok by hand. Seemed to slot in all the way without any force required. However I could definitely see it tighten down as the bolts were tightened.

New rear halfshaft - now have awful grinding noise!

Thanks Lynall. I’ll do that. I’ll have them both out again. If that is a problem - just grind the required amount off the end?

New rear halfshaft - now have awful grinding noise!

Right. Checked both rear wheels. Shafts out. Wheel bearings ok. Then also swapped the off-side one for the original one. Both sides are now back on original ones now. The noise has gone. Properly confused now. I double checked originals vs new. There is one minor difference - the splines on...

New rear halfshaft - now have awful grinding noise!

Could I have damaged the bearing somehow? Was fine before I started!

New rear halfshaft - now have awful grinding noise!

Hi fellow forum members. Hoping to pick your respective brains! I’ve just changed the drive flanges all round on my 2000 TD5 90. Front ones all good. Rears are one-piece units with the half shaft. Off-side rear went on fine. Near side rear - seemed to slot in ok. Tightened all bolts up (new)...

Thought it was Bearmach but looking again think its a generic after market job - same price mind you. Worth changing out do you think?

Heater fan blowing air OUT of wingtop vent

Put a new thermostat in during the summer - still takes a good while for the needle to even move. But Air starts to warm up a bit even before the needle moves. Matrix is ok. Flushed it during the summer and was pretty clean. Only thing left to do is strip the heater box down and see if the...

Yeah - now I’ve had it apart I can see how that was never going to happen!

Heater fan blowing air OUT of wingtop vent

Right. Humble pie time. Big slices of humble pie. I did exactly this today and had exactly the same result - paper sucked onto the vent. NO air getting blown out of vent. Had the vent off and the tube to the fan out. Fan is going the right way round. So - you were all right - I should have...

Heater fan blowing air OUT of wingtop vent

I know - I’ve doubted myself as well. Have been out and checked again that I’m not imagining it. But, I’m going to do exactly that test tomorrow before I start takings things off.

Heater fan blowing air OUT of wingtop vent

Hah - I’ll have a think about how I might be able to video it - think I probably need to find a smoker who’s happy breathing cigarette smoke into my engine bay for a few minutes.

Heater fan blowing air OUT of wingtop vent

I’ve had issues with the cables before where the outer wasn’t being clamped properly. Managed to sort that one out thanks to reading about it on the forum! When I had my rad off during the summer I gave everything a proper flush through with a hosepipe - surprisingly (and disappointingly) it was...
