    Which mods?

You don't need to do anything, but it will be a little limited off road as such. So, sensible cheap mods are: - remove front valence - some decent recovery points at the front - remove steps (not standard anyway?) - decent set of tyres - if your towbar hangs down at the back, unbolt...

    insurers obligation?

Can you post the exact terms and conditions of the insurance policy??? The clause that says its not covered in a commercial building is daft anyway, and therefore unenforceable (IMHO). My initial thoughts are.....she obviously doesn't know if it was lost within the building or outside; if...

whats better disco or series axle ?

Makes sense to use the standard series axle, nothing wrong with them and no modification/fabrication required, to attach to the suspension.

whats better disco or series axle ?

Can you give more details, eg intended use, what vehicle they'll be attached to, what transmission, permanent or part-time 4WD, etc?

    Get my diff up

Forgot to say, the other advantage of a portal hub is that it can be an additional stage of gear reduction. This means that the gearbox, transfer box and diffs don't need to transmit as much torque - so they can be smaller/lighter.

    Get my diff up

Basically, you've got it. This pic illustrates it quite well:

Bala Off Road - Sunday 6th March

As I thought, its been "tamed down" a bit now. I've been a while ago and it was better, and was back there late last year to see a lot of the previous nice tracks really badly cut up, no new tracks but plenty of areas now sectioned off for sheep grazing (its used for grazing most of the year...

    Bobtailing and the IVA testicle

That only applies when REGISTERING one though - you don't need to go through that, because its already registered....

    Bobtailing and the IVA testicle

What would you change body type to? Having looked at the regulations in a bit more detail, this phrase sticks out: So, if you bobtail it but the actual recorded details on the V5 remain the same (same body style, colour, fuel type, etc etc) then no reregistration, no IVA, no problems at...

Bala Off Road - Sunday 6th March

Been there lots of times before but not going tomorrow (working, among other reasons!). Have fun there. Should be okay. Take some pics. Don't go into the small woods unless you have a winch!!!

    Bobtailing and the IVA testicle

I'm not sure it needs reregistering at all - where exactly in the laws, does it say a radically altered vehicle WHICH IS ALREADY REGISTERED, actually needs to go through obtaining a registration plate etc again? It might be they interpret reregistering for any change of the V5's details, eg...

whats this crap i heard on the radio today about insurance for cars off the road ...

Seller has to inform DVLA of new keeper's details otherwise they are liable for fines etc Traders, similar situation. So....how do dishonest people get away with not registering at their home address? False details given when they buy a car?

Young persons car insurance rip off !

Which classic car insurer is doing insurance for 17 and 18 year olds? I thought they have a min. age limit of 21 or 25 or something; and that one of the conditions of the insurance is you own another car (which is used, ie also has insurance on it).

Young persons car insurance rip off !

Thank god pricing is based on risk these days. It means I pay less, and aren't subsidising young people's accidents. Bit unlucky that EU ruling's been made to equalise boys and girls' insurance - but there you go huh. What do you mean "no young people on the rd so eventually no business for...

    "Please don't break anything"

Yeah, a van will be cheaper to insure than a car. Once you start making mods, and need modified insurance....it will get higher though. And many of the cheap car insurance guys won't cover any mods etc.
