Sounds like you got the wires wrong way round on the window motor. Cant think why or how that could have happened but thats what it sounds like...

what happens when you try to open it? does the window make an attempt to open? or just the door catch open, or absolutely nothing?

If you're definately getting rid after 5K then there isnt the point in costly tyres, but if you were owning long term then pound for mile you'd get more out of a decent tyre.
