    Choices choices... :(

RR diffs are about £40 and a half hour job, you only need the rears for now, TDi and overdrive could cost an arm and a leg and no guarantees. They'e all very old now. Cabs are cozier in the winter, although the ice can fall on your head in the morning. Fit a box in the back.

    Engine swaps

Excellent spreadsheet! I was wondering if anyone could do this. The mpg figures will cause some debate, but in real life I suppose it's close.

    diesel or gas

Unless you are doing mega miles the fuel costs are negligible in the grand scheme of things, a TDi will cost about a grand minimum and you will be off the road for a month, and then it will need sorting as engine swops throw up all sorts of gremlins. Leave well alone.

    advice on clutch

Try the TD5 section, you'll only get abuse from old farts on this page, the 19j is an old and unloved cul de sac of land rover engines.

    TD5 Temperature problem

19J is a four cylinder, you may get more help in the TD5 section.

    Where is red (in celcius)?

Could depend on where the sender is on the pug block compared to the original, top/bottom, front/back? Getting an accurate reading is Always an issue in an engine swop. Find where it runs comfortably, even if it's in the red, and make that your norm, mine is just above cold, when it moves to the...

Isuzu engine in a series 2?

An S2 is marginal on brakes and road holding compared to any recent truck, even with a 2.25, the old adage used to be when upgrading a car, start with the brakes, then the suspension, then give it more power. It is dangerous the other way round, but that is what most folk do.

    overheating

Don't believe a 40 year old sender/gauge, test the temperature

Lean to one side has re-appeared

Don't they all lean that way? I've followed a few and they have the same angle of dangle as mine (which has new parabolics).

    wiring tow bar electrics

My local tow bar shop says to solder the connections, don't rely on those blue clips or connectors. Vibration and damp cause havoc and are LR USPs. (unique selling points)-

    Air filter question

I've a blue cone filter, don't know about mpg but it's a lot neater and loads more space.

2.5TD Cylinder Head Cracked, need advise/ help please

Don't think this is about a 19J engine, they are an 80's Defender engine, not a 90's P38 one.

    2.5TD 19J loses power after 15 mins

    Sorted yet?

    Stuck on this one !!!!!!

If it's worse with the air filter on I would look for a blockage somewhere along the pipes, it's probably something stupid like a rag being left in a port when you were having it re-ground. Put in to stop Swarf getting in and overlooked on the rebuild. Just be methodical and keep your temper...

    Servicing the fuel system

As you say Bosch service centre I assume it's a TDi? Could just be crud in the system, anywhere from the fuel tank to the injectors, and even K & N filters clog up eventually. Try the easy things before involving "specialists".

    Information

I think "what the **** have I bought?" is a standard question the morning after when you open the curtains. One thing for sure, very little of it will be actually a 1979 2.25 diesel. The chassis/engine number is a start, does it match the numbers on the V5? If so that's a bonus.

    2.5TD 19J loses power after 15 mins

Daft I know but I had a mini that had this symptom, the vent in the fuel cap was blocked and a vacuum built up in the tank that stopped the fuel pumping through, best of luck.

    I have a TD engine...

Why? A good 19j swopped for an unknown TDi. Fashion?
  19. B

19j should surely go faster than 50!

Don't forget the magic words "200tdi" don't guarantee an improvement, you could have the same problems with a 25 year old engine as you have now. Hear it running before you buy. No power could be a simple leak or adjustment on any turbo engine, my pajero did what yours does and it was a loose...
