There's definitely not a cassette in there already. The display is blank, so I don't know if it's asking for the code, but I've tried to input it several times without success. I've seen a head unit on Ebay for £80, but I'm not certain that the fault is there and not elsewhere in the system.

The radio head unit in my P38 lights up but there is no sound or display. Also, it won't accept a cassette. Any ideas please?

Yes, it does have steering wheel controls, but I'm not worried if they don't work with the Blaupunkt as long as the radio is compatible with the rest of the amp and speaker system.

I've had mine for 18 months and have covered over 30K miles. Fit a Roverdrive - it really makes a difference.

Sounds like you have a duff alternator. I've got a standard Defender one going spare for a few bob, but you may be too far away from me (Zummerzet).
