Where can you get those from?

    Td5 into a series 2a

Hey Ed, how's it going? If I was going to go to that much trouble it would have to be the TDV8.

    Td5 into a series 2a

I've no experience of Perkins Phaser engines, but I bet they weigh a lot more than a 2 1/4 diesel engine and are probably fairly low revving. Just get a 200Tdi from a Discovery and fit it to your series III gearbox - no messing. They are fantastic engines and work amazingly well in a series...

    rear diff filler plug

It will be a lot more work, but if you're going to drill the diff pan then you should remove the diff first so that you can clean out the swarf. You don't want swarf ruining your bearings.

    Economy Drive!

I make it more like 33%: If the diff pinion is rotating at y RPM, then the wheels with a 4.7:1 axle will be spinning at y/4.7 RPM, and the wheels with a 3.54:1 axle will be spinning at y/3.54 RPM. The percentage increase in speed will then be 100*(y/3.54 - y/4.7)/(y/4.7) =...

    Longer front spring?

I think it's a bad idea to do this because the approach angle will be reduced and the vehicle will look odd with the bumper several inches further forward. If it's the spring rate you want to change, then this could be done by removing a few leaves. That might reduce the ride height which...

Will a LWB Defender bumper fit a Series?

A friend of mine temporarily fitted a series bumper to a TD5 Defender. I'm not sure, but I think it stuck out further than a Defender bumper, so a Defender bumper on a Series might end up further back than standard.

Fitting air con to a Series Land Rover – is it possible?

A double skinned hard top as fitted to station wagons would be a much easier solution to a problem which I don't really think exists, in this country at least. The air vents under the windscreen work really well. If you really must fit air con, then the key problem to solve will be how to...

    gearbox miss match

I've got a 1970 IIA and that does not have synchromesh on 1st or second. The bellhousings of late IIA gearboxes and SIII gearboxes are interchangeable, because I looked at filling a SIII bellhousing to my IIA box when I was fitting a Transit engine whose starter motor fouled the slave cylinder...

    Engine swap in 2 days

Looking at the photo of the Steve Parker exhaust system it looks like the down pipe goes under the rear end of the sump and then takes the conventional routing. The cheapest way to do it would be to find some old exhaust systems with the correct bends, chop them out and then join them up with...

    Engine swap in 2 days

There will be more satisfaction in doing a nice neat and tidy job of the installation than a 2 day lash up. A bit of over-optimism isn't such a bad thing. I'd probably never have started some of my projects if I'd been realistic about how long they would really take.

    Engine swap in 2 days

It would speed up the job if you buy a conversion downpipe. Steve Parker do them for Peugeot engines: Steve Parker Land Rover Exhaust Systems, Stainless Steel Exhausts. I had a 200Tdi full large bore system off them for a SIII and it's well made.

    Bugger just blown up :(

I've had a UJ break up and the front prop disconnecting from the front axle when I bashed it on a tree stump. It's possible that yours broke because the box got stuck in 4WD and driven around on the road, or the berings may have broken up and the UJ spider gradually worn through the lugs.

    ADVICE: Africa Adventure!!

I don't think you're going to improve the fuel consumption by fitting a larger petrol V8 engine. A 200Tdi is what you need - good on fuel and more than enough power for a leaf sprung Land-Rover, in fact for a trip like that it might be worth turning down the turbo boost to reduce the chance of...

    Bugger just blown up :(

Is's not just that the bolts holding the propshaft to the front output flange on the gearbox, that have worked loose and fallen out is it? Has the universal joint broken up or has the front output shaft on the gearbox become datatched from the gearbox. I just can't imagine the propshaft itself...

    toyota 2c motor

I've no idea what the availability of Land-Rover 200Tdi engines is like in South Africa, but if you can lay your hands on one of those you should sell your Toyota engines and fit one of those because they are excellent engines and fit nicely into a series engine bay. There is no need to buy or...

    Engine swap in 2 days

I'm not saying it can't be done, but attempting to fit a non standard engine in 2 days is highly optimistic, especially if a proper job is to be made of the installation. I've done 2 non standard engine swaps and it took much longer than 2 days to fit each of them. I don't know about fitting...

Just about to buy High ratio transfer kit

I've still got the standard 10" drums all around on my SIII with a 200Tdi engine. I do plan to put 11" drums on the front at some point, but I reckon the 10" drums are O.K for the time being. It's how you drive the vehicle not how much power the engine has, which determines whether the brakes...

Blown turbo seals, check this out.

I've never tried stalling an engine that's going flat out at full revs. I wander if the clutch would take it?
