Disco 1 300tdi won't start in the cold

I'm afraid the neighbours would call the environmental police, and I only need it twice a week or so

Disco 1 300tdi won't start in the cold

Tomorrow it will be a bit warmer and I expect it to start, but after that it will get cold again and I can't get stranded away from town. Which electrics could freeze? I don't mind bringing the whole relay box indoors overnight, lol, but if it's the starter solenoid than I guess a new one is the...

Disco 1 300tdi won't start in the cold

Hello, My 300Tdi won't start, battery full, clean connections but when turning the key I just get a single relay click and that's all. I tried a jumper cable from the negative onto the engine block and same thing. It's the first time it's happened. It was -22 degrees C today so all I can think...

Disco 1 Getting the idle revs right

I'm thinking the most no-nonsense approach is directly on the crank pulley, but it's difficult to crawl under and get a reading. I guess that's what I'll do, no point in messing about with ratios and whatnot.

Disco 1 Getting the idle revs right

I have a laser tachometer, how should I go about measuring the revs at idle on a 300tdi? Assuming it does not have the correct alternator pulley. I can think of painting a white stripe on the belt or one of the bigger pulleys. Any ideas?

Okay, will try it that way!

    Disco 1 300tdi coolant filling

Hi, So when filling back with coolant, the level in the tank has to be about halfway. The radiator is full, but I can't fill the thermostat housing to the top without the level rising in the tank. What is the correct way to fill the system? I already checked the manual but it makes no mention...

Disco 1 Broken belt pulley bolt - how do I take it out?

I was lucky enough to find a used water pump housing with good threads for 60 pounds, as I don't have the time or means to remove the broken stud and fix the threads on mine at the moment. Struggling to find a stud here in North-Eastern Europe, but I've heard that some people just use a long...

Disco 1 Broken belt pulley bolt - how do I take it out?

Hi, Does the cambelt have to come off to remove the housing? It was just done probably 100 miles ago. I just need to get it back on the road desperately right now and reliably, fingers crossed. It will take at least a week to get the new stud though.

Disco 1 Broken belt pulley bolt - how do I take it out?

Thanks for the reply. Once it's out, and if I use a drill to take it out, I can easily drill a 10mm hole and install a helicoil I bought in anticipation... But I think the radiator will have to come out for me to have room. P.S.: I just found a thread on another forum saying the correct...

Disco 1 Broken belt pulley bolt - how do I take it out?

300Tdi Whilst on a drive rev counter stopped working, battery light came on and I lost power steering. Just as I thought the belt had come off, but not for the reason I suspected. This bolt had broken off and now the remaining bit is stuck in the water pump housing, but that's not all: A year...

Replaced the rubber coupling on the rear prop just now.. will see if it helps at all with play. Old one was knackered nevertheless.

Usually it's either the seal around the rim or the valve, both should cost a few quid to fix and it's good for years.

Old Disco with really poor fuel economy

Mine got about 23mpg on a long run, at best. Td5 auto, straight piped with big tyres as well, so I would say relevant. I don't think it could've gotten any better than that.

Other what have u done on ur disco today

Was about to change the oil in my girlfriend's P38 transfer case when I noticed that I bought 80W90 and hers takes ATF, so I put it in my D1. Good thing I did cos I just had 300ml of sludge in it :vb-unhappy:

Disco 1 LT230 Centre diff not locking

I was watching that video some hours ago, that's when I noticed that when he moves the lever side to side as if to engage/disengage CDL, that little stud slides in and out of the assembly, which in turn rotates the shaft going downwards. When I move the lever side to side the stud stays still...

Disco 1 LT230 Centre diff not locking

Hi, Yes, that is the high/low. But is the rusty stud supposed to move sideways for the CDL?

Disco 1 LT230 Centre diff not locking

As the title says. I just noticed this today while disconnecting the linkage. I'm not sure how it is supposed to operate as this is my first LR with CDL. On my D2 I used to go under the car with a 10mm spanner to engage, good days.. I took a short video of the linkage, if anyone can maybe spot...

Disco 1 R380 output shaft wear question

Hi all, Ever since I got my D1 (300tdi, manual, '97) it jerks a lot when taking off or changing gears. I read a lot about it and what seemed most likely to me was that the splines on the output shaft must be worn. This summer I bought a spare gearbox with input and output shafts looking great...
