    Defender celebration factory tour

going through old ground here but last week i went on the defender tour, as others have said a fantastic afternoon and worth its money, i have been around a fair few steel related factories, in comparison this was not that antiquated! I think anyone who owns a series and its younger siblings who...

    What gave you the bug?

I always wanted a 4x4 in general for its usefulness and what it stands for, used rangers at work for a few years with pleasure but didn't actually get a landy of my own until last year, a 1972 series 3. Driving it 80 miles home is a highlight of the last few years to me (yes, yes a sad life i...

    The Beast is back but...

Thanks for the above advice, I don't know how thoroughly it was flushed out but the cooling system was filled up with a mixture that would guarantee it to -20 last Autumn. I know the chap who had it last hardly used it in the 6 years he had it and before he sold it he took it to a pro to get it...

    The Beast is back but...

thanks for your advice, i shall have to dig out the Haynes manual, been out and about this afternoon in it and although its getting very hot, the bottom pipe is now hot where as it wasn't yesterday, i wonder whether weeks of being propped up at an angle has not helped the situation. thanks

    The Beast is back but...

hello all after way too many weeks being off the road to have the destroyed rear diff box pan repaired on my 1972 beasty, i was most pleased to take it back around the village and it drove very well indeed after i put more fuel in it (glad i had a jerry can full of petrol....), I noticed it...

    quest tonight 9pm landy content

Thanks for tipping us off, most enjoyable, good old Huey it was interesting when Brian said about the EU regulations, perhaps that is partially to do with us having to waiting a couple of years between the models - which seems mad. Good old EU ey

    Need a new mechanic.

hello Stu These maybe too far away for you but they are a proper Landy specialist maltingsoffroad.co.uk they are as far east in South Yorkshire as is possible, I have taken our series 3 there for various bits and pieces. (luckily i am just a village away) They are often busy though and charge...

    course of action

Thanks for that, definitely best course of action as i am sure welding on a weld that welded a weld would not be successful, no telling what the original weld patched up but it was more than a pin-hole thanks

    owt to be concerned about?

thanks for this, will add it to the 'be reyt' list - maybe :)

    course of action

thanks for the advice folks, replacing the axle seems a tad drastic, but at that price a possibility, shame about the distance. Can series diff housing'd be picked up? or can defenders be fitted? thanks

    course of action

next big problem, occurred late january this year to the series 3 '72 petrol, the back diff box started leaking, we tried to patch it up and failed, on inspection it had a crack that had been dodgily repaired by welding etc then mastic type years ago. took it to a near by lr specialist where...

    owt to be concerned about?

apologies for my lack of accurate descriptions of the problem, i am a complete numpty when it comes to the engine but here goes when i turn the key to stop the 1972 beasty the engine carries on turning over for a few seconds, as if it trying to grab hold of the gears (i always turn it off out...

    old style plates

thanks for that, once we have recovered from spending £400 on it, we might very well get the old plates on, sounds daft but i think it would make it look like more of a classic,
  16. M

    old style plates

Yes that is right, 1973 was the cut off point, interesting to know thanks

    old style plates

hello all our 1972 series 3 currently has the new style number plates on it, would it be possible/legal to change them to the old style ones? I am not all that fussed on spending the money as we have just spend £415 on it! but i don't technically own it (my dad does) although i do most of...

    Poor Show, Defender Owners!

I would be glad to give someone a pull in the old beast, ain't got any modern towing kit but the old chain has not let me down and we have used it to pull far more solid structures. Depends on the situation of course

sorry for being so insulting folks, i guess that is me rightly banned from this section! I suppose I wrote that to make me feel better for being such a non-risk taking tight wad pussy cat, may be change my mind in a years time with a little more spare cash
