    Great balls of fire!

So here's an interesting question. Have any of you ever had a fire randomly spew out from your handbrake? I mean, fire coming in the cab from under the rubber handbrake gaiter. I had this the other day and I'm still trying to find out how. The handbrake wasn't on, for sure, and I had only driven...

    Bloody indicators!

Thanks for your replies guys, I will check all everything as soon as possible and report back!

    Bloody indicators!

Thanks for the link Simon, I have seen that before. I will need to get my multimeter up here by the looks of things! Which earth points are you talking about? I've checked the main ones but I don't want to miss anything obvious.

    Bloody indicators!

Interesting how people keep seeming to say it's the hazard switch. How is this likely when the hazards work? I can buy one if that really is likely to be the problem.

    Bloody indicators!

So I seem to have a similar problem to many others on my 300tdi, my hazards work fine but my indicators do not. The flasher relay buzzes like a bee as long as the indicators are supposed to be on. I don't know if that means it's broken or not. I currently have it out and in my house as...

    Autowatch immobiliser issue

Alright cheers mate. I've been trying all evening. I've beaten the fuel pump inhibitor so at least I can drive it using a spanner on the starter motor.

    Autowatch immobiliser issue

Has anyone had any experience with an Autowatch immobiliser? Mine has decided to immobilise me and I cannot get my 300tdi Defender started. I don't know if I can just rip it off and be OK or if there is an easy way to fix it/common faults. Any help greatly appreciated!

    Interesting starting problem 300tdi

Right, that sounds simple enough. Hopefully it's just a dodgy connection! You're not wrong there, sparks flying as I shove suspiscious metal objects in my bonnet haha. Thanks for all the help. I will let you know how I get on!

    Interesting starting problem 300tdi

Ahh balls! It seems strange that it should just randomly break but that's Land Rover I guess. I will look at the dash when I can. Is there anything particular you think I should be looking out for?

    Interesting starting problem 300tdi

Very clever Trax. That worked a treat once I managed to hold it all together at the same time. So unfortunately it seems like an immobiliser problem?

    Interesting starting problem 300tdi

I was fully ready to beg for forgiveness after findinga battery terminal looser than I would have liked, but no. That has made no difference either.

    Interesting starting problem 300tdi

Ok, well there's power to the starter motor. It cranks and turns the engine over convincingly. But it still doesn't start.

    Interesting starting problem 300tdi

I'm stuck without a voltmeter at the moment so I can't check that easily. It's been using a lot of electrical power recently and a mechanic friend said it might still be the battery as the immobiliser needs a fully charged battery. I will try giving it a jump start when a mate arrives!

    Interesting starting problem 300tdi

So this has got me confused. I went out to see if my turbo hoses were pressurising as I suspect there is a hole in one of them. I went to start the engine but there was nothing. The lights on the dash come on, the headlights work, the radio works, everything except the starter it seems. It's...

    Is it just because it's a 130?

The tyres are 265/75 all round so they aren't that extreme. I couldn't tell you about the timing belt I'm afraid, the air filter and fuel filter are next on my list of things to do so I will do them, see if I can get the timing checked and then report back. Cheers.

    Is it just because it's a 130?

So I rcently upgraded from a 1986 2.5 N/A 110 to a 1998 300tdi 130. The old 110 was slow and loud as you'd expect and ran out of gear at about 60mph. Considering I now have a 300tdi I was expecting to have quite a bit more pace. It will do 65-70mph but only after a good couple of minutes at full...

First post, first question. 300tdi Defender noise.

Ok thanks, I will look in to doing that in the next few days. It does seem to be a bit on the loud side in comparison with yours and se if I can find the cause. Thanks again.

First post, first question. 300tdi Defender noise.

That's what I thought! Oh I'm sorry to hear that, I fear I'm heading the same way at this rate! The advice about the holes is a good point. I'll have a look when I can. It doesn't have sound proofing per se, just rubber mats that cover the footwells and transmission tunnel. I have read about...

First post, first question. 300tdi Defender noise.

Hello to all, I have been searching and reading things on this website for months now and it really is very useful! After joing a few months ago I feel I am ready to ask my first question, which is a basic one and merely out of curiosity. I currently have a 1998 300tdi Defender 130 and was just...
