    starting problems

What was wrong with the crankshaft sensor? Was it damaged? Basically there is nothing in it to fail. I replaced the one on our '99 after a week of intermittent starting problems but when I took the old one out the pin was at 45 degrees which I guess was caused by a bit of the starter motor which...

    P38 brake fluid

Never known air to rundown a tire like that. If the fluid is dot 4 then you have a leak on that wheel. Check the pipes into the caliper - if they are good then maybe the caliper pistons need attentions. Either way if fluid is escaping then air is getting in but the air getting in isn't causing...

    1998 P38 - Lack of acceleration at speed/uphill

I had a '97 Gems and my wife had a '99 Thor. The difference between them was night and day as far as drivabily and acceleration was concerned. Diagnostics never helped explained the difference and I never managed to get to the cause. I doubt that the difference was just down to the different...

    blue smoke problems

I had a similar experience on my '97 V8. It failed an MOT for emissions and after some sound advice from Wammers it turned out to be a leaking exhaust valve. Heads off new valve everything good for 10mins. Then the blue smoke came - tons of it. Being more of a spanner than a mechanic I refused...

    Immobiliser fault?

If my memory serves me right (which it may not given that it is 36°c outside and I am full of beer) there are 3 RF rxer models. Each variant is marked by a coloured dot. I believe the green dot was the original followed by a light blue dot and then by a dark blue dot. No doubt someone will...

    Immobiliser fault?

Sounds like you are suffering from the old type RF receiver problem. It is well documented on the site. You need to change the receiver to the latest version. Typically they cost around £140 but some people have hot them cheaper of ebay.

Anyone know rough cost for replacing a liner

Might be worth sending Mark4x4 a PM. He had his block fitted with tophat liners following a similar crack. I cant remember the name of the place he used but when he dropped off his block there were rows of blocks from some of big names who also offer the service. It cost him around £700 and i...

    THOR V8 Petrol fuel injection

If the ECT sensor is not hard failed then there is telling what iy would do to fuel trims. You might be better disconnecting the plug on the ECT which will force the car to drop into a predefined running mode. When the ECT on my Thor failed it was difficult to hot start so I pulled the plug...

    BECM Box programming

Surely things like wifi frequencies are standard across the globe. Most of the range rovers RF problems were with the domestic wireless applications like doorbells, wifi and petrol station signs etc and I would have thought they shared the same RF spectrum. To be fair to Land Rover most of these...

Electrical problems - Running out of hair!!!

Definitely sounds like the fuse box. They can be repaired but it can be a pain in ass. Rangerover.net has a good write up on the procedure. Mind you I seem to recall that a new fuse box is only about £120 which may well be worth it compared to a rebuild. Either way if you suspect the main +ve...

    Suitable lubricant for cold penetration

    BECM Box programming

Did the latest version of the RF receiver ever get fitted to production models or was it only introduced after 2002? My '97 had the original version and the '99 had the second attempt. Also you dont hear much of the RF issues in the US but not sure why.

    P38 pillar/post interior trim

Dopeys trick worked brilliantly for me. I ordered up some old leather off cuts from the bay of e and a tin of spray adhesive. The transformation was unbelievable.

    Well whadya know?

Fuel over here has jumped by 38 cents in the past 3 weeks. Mind you that still works out at about $1/63p/€0.80 per litre. Which I am sure beats you all hands down.:D

new to this please help.... it just cut out!

Regardless of the complexities of the rangie at the end of the day it is just a petrol engine, therefore to make it run you need petrol, compression and spark. Lets assume you have compression given that it worked fine 5mins before it wouldnt start. Your AA man says fuel pump is good which...

    Thor v's Gems

So at the moment I am on the lookout for a new rangie. The choice over here is somewhat simplified. You can have either a 4.0L or a 4.6L. No doozals ( not that I would ever stoop that low - sorry Datatek :D) and the highest trim I have seen is HSE. There are some really good examples of both...

    Not Starting or turning over

Good to hear you got it going. Could be that the plug you cleaned was preventing the BeCM from communicating with the ECU which would also prevent the check engine lamp from coming on. Maybe some of the BeCM guru's can advise if the white plug you refer to is linked in any way to the ECU...
