Sounds like you are suffering from the old type RF receiver problem. It is well documented on the site. You need to change the receiver to the latest version. Typically they cost around £140 but some people have hot them cheaper of ebay.

Did the latest version of the RF receiver ever get fitted to production models or was it only introduced after 2002? My '97 had the original version and the '99 had the second attempt. Also you dont hear much of the RF issues in the US but not sure why.
