    Engin flushing

What others said. Engine flush is "old school" (60s/70s) when engines had generous oil passages, and the oil was organic, and of questionable quality (thermal breakdown being pretty common). Nowadays,.....synthetic oil, name brand filter, and changes every 10K (or once a year), and all is good...

    V8 (notso) gaylander

And that's what I'm saying here! "Custom EVERYTHING". Means: Tons of money (not a problem per se), TIME (the most precious "commodity" we have, and take it for granted), and AGGRAVATION to the "T". Personally,....I'm running out of time (I'll be 59 in October), money is OK, but...

    V8 (notso) gaylander

Yes you could! There is nothing "impossible" IF the time/money/patience is of no concern. You would have to get VERY familiar with the current "nerve system" of the vehicle, isolate it (to the point), and create the parallel system, while bypassing/fooling the current brain to think "all OK"...

    V8 (notso) gaylander

The ONLY way something like this can be done, is to replace EVERYTHING. And I mean the whole drivetrain (plus the electronics!), to include: engine, tranny, shafts, and differential. It would be almost impossible to keep it as "all wheel drive", with rear wheel drive as the only option. This...

battery terminals with provision for extra leads

Back in the day, ......(all old people say that!) I drove rally cars in competition. Fun times. At that time CB radios were BIG, and I installed my fair share of them. CB is pretty much dead on these shores at this time (except the trucking industry, but even that is slowly dying)...

    V6 Sudden Power Loss

DEFINITELY electrical, AND fuel delivery related. You are on the right track. I would start by cleaning all contacts in the electrical box under the hood, with special attention to the fuel pump relay. Once that's sorted out, and the problem persists, I'd move onto the fuel tank/pump/filter...

what mods/accessories have you fitted to your hippo

Thank you Gentlemen! Looking into it as we speak.

What have you done to your Freelander today

Just finished installing driving lamps on the front bumper. Direct power to the battery, wire through the bulkhead (found the post about there being an opening that is meant for manuals, since this is auto,.....nice passage through the bulkhead, big THANKS to the poster that discovered this!)...

what mods/accessories have you fitted to your hippo

My wife's 2002 Hippo is all stock, as it came out of the dealer in California (V6). Zambezi silver, black leather, 17" alloys, auto, and power everything. Today, (just finished) I fitted driving lamps on the front bumper. The lamps were leftover from her Wrangler (long gone), and were collecting...

    Oil Leak

Car didn't "die", ......the seal went out (wear item). I would shop for cheaper labor. I can get it done here in CA for 250US+ parts.

    Freelander Faults poll

Well,......I bought my wife's Hippo off the JUNKYARD!!! (NEVER,..... as in "never ever" we thought of buying ANYTHING off the junkyard!) Since I am a BORED DIY kind, I took the challenge to put this thing back in service. Wife fell in LOVE with it. So far,.....replaced the engine and tranny...

    Removing door panel?

I had my door panels ("cards" in UK) off several times. 2002 US Hippo (I don't know if Euro versions are different). One screw in the door latch out (remove the cover). Two screws in the handle (handle stays on the panel). Four screws on the bottom of the door. Pry out the black "triangle" by...

    Tyre pressure measuring device

MOST "normal" people are not on ANY of these forums. They know how to put gas in their cars, and not much else. They drive on the tires until they go bald, and then they replace them. ALL posters on this (and other car/motorcycle/airplane/watch collector forums) ARE OCD to some level. Some are...

    HDC/F4 saga continues!

I hate posts where people post their issues, and never come back to give the update, making us wonder what happened. So,......IF some of you are wondering........ Hippo would not drive for more than 10 yards after start at the time, throwing HDC, F4, and Service Engine Soon. I disconnected...

    Other Hi from RSA

Welcome to the forum. 06 Range Rover (Full Fat)/02 Freelander owner over here (SoCal). And BTW,.....no rust Discos are abundant in this state! My wife was on the fence between the Disco and Hippo, and decided she likes Hippo better. "It's the right size for her" (she's a short, adorable Munchkin...

    Boot Carpet

I can't see your location? If you are in the States, and need the black carpet, I have a good one in the Hippo I'm parting out. If you are in the UK, it will be too much to ship it (I think), but some local breakers will have it cheap.

    HDC/F4 saga continues!

My theory of "ambient temperature" just went down the toilet. Wife took Hippo to work this morning, and called to tell me that she didn't even make it off the ranch, when "Service Engine Soon", HDC, and F4 appeared. And the temperature was balmy 60F! So it seems that the problem got worse...

    HDC/F4 saga continues!

There are two computers in the engine bay. Engine Management and Transmission Management. I know the car will not start with the ECM that doesn't "belong" to the right engine. But how about TCM? I checked the restistance of all connections from TCM to the tranny (through the barrels), and all...

    HDC/F4 saga continues!

I found the schematic of the earth points on 1.8L Hippo on this forum. I think they should be same on this one? Since the engine/tranny replacement was the only thing done, I would suspect that something in the engine bay was left disconnected, or has a bad contact. I will research this area...

    HDC/F4 saga continues!

No I haven't! Can someone point them all to me (locations)? So Hippo,......horn chime happens ONLY when something is open, that it shouldn't be? Otherwise (all good) just the lights flash? And BTW, what are you guys doing up at this hour (or do I dare ask?)? It's 5PM in CA, and Midnight over...
