    Repainting

Its not to everone's taste, but when I fist got it, I got the ump with everyone say " when are you going to paint it green then". It stayed yellow ever since.

Land Rover series 3 88 diffs

No what you mean about going deaf. I drove my IIA from London to Munich and back twice on standard diffs ( albeit warn ones). First time with out overdrive second time with. Both occasions were filled with noise. Love it though. Taking the old tub over the Alps to Garda this summer so by...

    Bearings

Hi All, If you don't mind I would like to throw in my 2 pennies worth. Don't know about you but I am pretty fed up with the quality of parts I'm getting at the moment. Spring bushes that last 2 years, new freewheel hubs that leak, Door pins that don't fit, the list is endless. For this...

    screaming overdrive

My Overdrive screams when it is engaged - its always done it and has covered thousands of miles like it. I have been told they all do that. Is it true or can I adjust something. makes me go deaf on the overrun.

    Headless wonder

Re Dr Pepper, You are dead right, you need the right sort of Silicone ( Heavy body) to cope with hot oil. You might have a few problems on the cooling side as water glycol under pressure is evil. Forget sealing fuel sides with silicone though - thats where you need the anerobic gasket stuff...

    Headless wonder

No what you mean Landybird. Exxon valdez size slicks are under every part that contains oil when parked. Despite, junking the normal gaskets and sealing with Loctite 5910 (H Duty silicone).

Off road in the Austrian Alps

Has anyone done it? where to get maps? any ideas on the rules? I would like to drive from Munich to Lake Garda in my IIA and would like to do as much of it off road as possible. I have seen some comments here about driving in the alps but nothing specific to the Austrian alps. Any pointers...

    Series II MPG

I think I got my 2.25 petrol MPG in to single figures when towing a trailer load of stones up to north bavaria a few weeks back. The price of crude shot up again the monday afterwards.

    Headless wonder

Thanks fellahs, Just been out in the Bstard cos the roads are blocked round here due to work and therefore, had to go through the woods:) Its running sweet so, if it ain't broke..... I'll give it a service anyhow in a few weeks so another oil change should help.

A Project Im Finding Hard To Resist

950 ! blimmy, Yeh I missed that. Another one of those " if its old its worth a few quid". Perhaps it should be pointed out to the vendor that high survival rates usually means low prices, Look at Scimitars, Rover P5s and P6s. MGBs and early 2 door escorts are the exception...... Shame...

    Headless wonder

Thanks Dave. I'll keep an eye on it. There is no water in the sump, oil is clean so I think I keep running. One other odd thing though, is the the rad always pushes the water out when its full. Its always done this, even with the old engine. I assumed that it was just because there is no...

A Project Im Finding Hard To Resist

Do it, Do it now! 200 notes is a good starting point in my opinion. As for starter classic/ resto project, a Landy has to be the best. Everything bolts on, parts are cheap although quality is declining rapidly, and if you bugger up the alignment with chassis repairs, you can just cut out your...

    Headless wonder

Replaced the Head gasket on my 2.25 Petrol (its an early one .1958) about a year a go and I have just noticed a bit of emulsion again on the underside of the oil filler cap. Dose anyone know if there can be a residue from the previus gasket failure still in the oil ( oil changed once since)...

    road springs or parabolics

Paras get my vote. Replaced my origionals for a set about a year ago and haven't had piles since. Off road my fillings stay in now too.

    IIA working hard

Good idea eigitinavee, Actually, the full canvas goes on for the summer I got a spanking new one last year. Truck cab for the winter -they get pretty heavy here in Munich. It was origionally a safari ( which i still have but don't use too much). So its an all in one. There good motors though...

    IIA working hard

Just thought I would post a picture of the yellow B'stard hard at work in Germany. Mother in law wanted a load of stones that I lifted up from a dirve way that I replaced. So I loaded them up and drove 250 Miles to the north of Bavaria ( slowly) and returned with a load of wood - I live in...

    Brakes Locking up

Re Pony brakes. I don't want to teach anyone to suck the old eggs so please forgive me if I am stating the obvious. If your brakes are difficault to adjust check the anchor boss on the bottom of the back plate ( where the two shose sit on). If its moving, you'll be adjusting for ever. I had...

    leany IIA

Thanks all for the tips. The mistery remains but here are a few answers to your questions. Springs were installed by me with new bushes all round. The lean was also present with the old ( origonal) springs - sinking to the drivers side corner. Before installing the Parabolics, I checked for...
