    Parabolics?

Fitted them to my 2 a about 3 years ago and there is a bit of sagging going on on the drivers front. I am not sure if this is chassis related though as I did do some welding on it at the same time. I need to get out there and do some measuring. I have to say though I love the ride and handling...

    wiffy, fumey landy

I think I will just rebuild the origional engine and keep the one thats in there as a spare. Its been rebuilt once in the 60s so is probably only the top end. But I never intended it to last this long- 13 years, with two trips to Munich and back and one over the alps. Its breathing pretty...

Odd H/L problem. Do i need a new gearbox?

Yep, agree with all. If the prop is moving and the wheels not then half shaft is most likely to blame. Its an easy fix but can get to be a pain of the break is at the diff end and its burred. Getting the bit out can be a bugger. A lot less drama than a gearbox replacement though.

    wiffy, fumey landy

I thought someone would say that. Looks like its on then. Better dig out the old lump and see why it threw the oil all over the cab all those years ago then. Sad really as the current lump still pulls like a train.

Basic mechanical advice to get a SIII back up and running

If it was running well when it was laid up then I think you will be lucky. Just change the fuel and get it running. I used to leave mine outside in the UK for months on end. I live in Munich and used to use the Landy when I was back in the UK. Winter/ summer it would sit there at the side of the...

Odd H/L problem. Do i need a new gearbox?

This may sound a bit obvious and sorry if you have already tried it but did you check that there is enough tension in the yellow knob spring? Try pulling the yellow knob up when you push the red one back towards the bulkhead. If there is no tension then it won't spring out of 4WD. I had that...

    wiffy, fumey landy

high all My landy stinks! I nearly pass out if I am driving with the tilt on and the back open. I am thinking its just bad carb settings but I have set the mixture and it still well fumey. Could it be more sinister? I have been running the engine - a 1958 early II petrol- for about 12 years...

Does it need to be reamed

The internal bits are done so the fork and shaft are in the right position. I.e setting the hole inline with the shaft with the thrust washer out by 7/16 of an inch. Its the other end. Out side the bell housing. The shaft comes out of the clutch release housing then goes into a tube with two...

Does it need to be reamed

Thanks for the answers. Seems like its just a bolt on job. I'll keep you posted when I try to assemble the parts this weekend. Cheers

Does it need to be reamed

Hi all, Just done the gearbox on my IIa as a result of a ****e quality bearing that was put in 2 years ago. This time I have done all the bearings and went for OEM - FAG, SKF and Timken. Anyhow, the gear box now feels really nice but the clutch was difficult to adjust. On checking the...

    alternative to welding

There are many structural adhesives about that would bond these sectíons strong enough to last - mostly two part Epoxy or toughend acrylics. But these areas will look better with decent butt welds or a joggled joint. Its already been said - get a mig and try it yourself. Its amazing how much...

    any taboo's

Super charger poking out the bonnet and stick on flames are the way forward. Dixi horn just in case the bridge is out helps notify the law that you are in the air. If you are planning some cock/ exhaust action make sure you let it cool down first - leaves a horrible ring...... Checker plate...

    Chassis suspension bushes.

Reading this with interest. Already had some correspondence with Oxides on the same subject. Quality of bushes and leany parrabolics. Getting bushes out of the chassis is a pig of a job. I too made a press out of welded box section and jack. Lasted half a bush before the box section bent and...

Repair to chassis - a question

Agree with others on this. 4K is a lot of wonga for a series in my opinion - must be spotless and on a galv chassis. Defeats the object of a series if you ask me. Get one thats a bit banged up so you don't mind using it for what its intended for. as for looking at welding / chassis repairs...

    Kin ****e spring bushes

Thanks oxides, Yep tried various preloading procedures but didn't seem to change much. Also phoned polybush but they don't do any for the larger diameter bushes. The Landy is leaning heavily to the drivers side also. Apparently, these Parabolics are not handed so I have always suspected...

    Kin ****e spring bushes

Hi all, Gearbox has chewed a few bearings last monday so has to come out. While I was underneath removing the prop I noticed again that the spring bushes are worn. They look cracked and heavily compressed. Its the second set I have put in in about 1 year. Its a pig of a job getting the old...
