Oil pump - prime or not

Thanks - I was thinking that its not neccessary to prime it looking at the oil flow.

    new cam or regrind

Thanks - I know what you mean. I am a bit concerned that the chap doing the machining wants to turn it into flyer. I have emphasised that I don't want to compromise on the plod ability and low end torque. I also like the near silent running at tick over around 500rpm.

    new cam or regrind

As you know I am in the process of an engine rebuild. I am trying to get hold of a slightly sexier cam shaft. However, talking to PIPER cams today they suggested I send the old one in and they will regrind it for me with a slightly better profile. I quite like this idea as I have long since...

    2.25 spice girl

Poo of a spade sound nice, I'll think I'll go for the sexy cam shaft then. I have found an Aladins cave of a place that's machining the block here in Bavaria. Its total chaos with a few machines in there surrounded by loads of engines. They chap really knows what he's on about and I'm confident...

    C**p.....

I think we all must be - driving around in these cold, draughty, noisy, smelly, thirsty, bouncy machines. ..... I love it - give me more.....

    2.25 spice girl

In the middle of engine rebuild at the moment as you may know and am debating whether or not to go for a spicy cam or leave as standard. Whats your opinion? I am already going for a rebore, head skim, stainless exhaust manifold and possible new weber. The old weber on there is kaputt. But...

Excessive smoke from oil filler cap. ?

You can replace the stem seals without taking off the head in theory. The idea is to remove the plugs, stuff a load of soft rope in the bores to stop the valve dropping in. Then leaver the valve spring down and remove the collet. Remove the spring and replace the seal. Then replace the lot back...

    How many owners ???

4th owner since 1965 - 1st was BT (GPO), 2nd was some chap that decided to cut the rear bulk head out and strip all the trim out of it - it was a station wagon. 3rd was the bloke I bought it from. That was in 1992. I tried to call him the other day just to tell him that its still going. No luck...

Things that go bump in the night - help!

Does it occur randomly or at the same time as you are going over bumps? I had strange and quite violent knocks only in the rain when cornering!! Traced it to partially siezed spring bushes.

65 Engine Rebuild and weird pistons

petrol. Do you think its worth putting a better cam in there while its in bits. I have heard that you can sex up the petrols quite a bit without loosing out on torque.

65 Engine Rebuild and weird pistons

Thanks for the info. Shame as one of the pistons is knackered. A snapped ring doubled itself and widened the piston gap. Do you know if it makes better sence to replace all pistons or just the affected one - provided I can get one.

    Prop shaft non genuine

I have a rear britpart prop with parabolics and seems to be ok - the diff rumbling on the overrun compensates for any prop noise anyhow.

65 Engine Rebuild and weird pistons

All, Been a way for a while. I have decided to start rebuilding my original engine as the one in there is getting very smelly. Runs alright though. Anyhow, pulled the pistons out last weekend and all looks pretty good on the crank side but the rings were absolutely knackered. Most of them just...
