    Brake Service - Parts Deals/Tips?

Thanks all! I'll certainly be looking at some some branded parts. I'll whip the drums off later to see what state they're in, I suspect they may need replacing too. I can also then look at the springs, etc and see if a full refurb kit is the way to go. I've tried reversing but they really are...

    Brake Service - Parts Deals/Tips?

I've been looking to do the brakes on my 2003 TD4 for a while. I've no record of when they were last done, the front discs and pads are pretty worn and I already have some Pagid replacements courtesy of the last eurocarparts offer. I just need to order some replacement caliper retaining bolts at...

Caliper Retaining Bolts - Size and Removal Tips

I bought Pagid pads and discs from Euro Car Parts when they had their last offer on but just double-checked the boxes and no bolts :( The search continues...

Caliper Retaining Bolts - Size and Removal Tips

I don't doubt they were 12mm at some point in their life. They've been mangled that much that a 12mm socket now can't get any purchase. I've seen mention of 4 bolts from Land Rover being priced at £46  Does anyone know where a cheaper alternative can be found?

Caliper Retaining Bolts - Size and Removal Tips

Thanks, I think I'll me making good use of an Irwin kit given some of the bolts I've seen so far. I offered up a few sockets; 12mm is too big, 11mm just too small, so I guess whoever had the car before was a bit old school :)

Caliper Retaining Bolts - Size and Removal Tips

Does anyone know what size the caliper retaining bolts are and where they can be found/ordered from? I'm guessing they're 7/16" going by the socket that nearly fits on those on my car. Who ever worked on them last made a right mess, graunched one and rounded off the other which leads me to my...

    Removing the Tailgate Trim

All sorted, went for the brute force approach after seeing numerous eBay auctions for trim retaing clips.

    Removing the Tailgate Trim

Are there any tips for releasing the clips around the side? At the moment I'm resisting using brute force as I suspect the clips will break. The clips at the top look more forgiving as it looks like once the bottom and side are released the trim will lift straight up and out. Cheers

Advice: Fair price for 4 x 16" wheels

Many thanks, but I'm up north so will keep looking on the small ads and through breakers.

If you're breaking any then let me know, I just need the alloys without tyres;)

Advice: Fair price for 4 x 16" wheels

Cheers, the tyres I have are sat on some old 1999 rims (ET46 offset). I tried some 9mm spacers and they safely clear the calipers and drum but I'd rather not run that setup. I know the 5-spoke 6J x 16" came in many incarnations; the ANR3975XXX/RRC112310XXX are an ET46 offset. From 2001 with the...

Advice: Fair price for 4 x 16" wheels

I have some AT tyres and simply need some 16" rims to put them on, cheaper the better. I've been offered a set of 4 of the 5-spoke 6J x 16" rims with the dimples, so should be the ET35 offset which is what I need. The price is £130 excluding postage. Having had a look at what's available it...

    4 x Freelander 16" Wheels - 5 x 114 ET35

I've some AT tyres waiting for a set of 'cheap' rims. I've seen a fair few of the 6J x 16 on eBay but very few people seem able to confirm the offset. I know the older rims on pre-2001 models had an ET46 offset. If it helps I can collect from Sheffield and Durham, surrounding areas and...

    TD4 - Crankshaft Failure

Mine was on 114,000 miles when the crank gave up. I've since heard that this isn't an unusual end to a TD4 engine but given the coverage on the forums it doesn't sound like a huge problem. Although the guy who supplied my replacement engine said he does a fair trade in them  I...

Freelander TD4 blown turbo, engine seized up - Help!

My TD4 engine gave up the ghost a few weeks back. Different problem, the crank on mine has fallen apart. I bought a replacement engine with warranty for £500 with a warranty and paperwork to back up the mileage it's done. That's without the turbo. Fitting is about £250 to £300 and that's at a...

Td4 engine sounds like a hedge cutter

Hi John, Thanks, all the info is much appreciated. An engine change is way beyond what I'd be able to do without a lot of help and equipment. Fortunately the garage I use are cheap and I trust them completely. I haven't had my Freelander long, only problem had been the MAF. After the outlays...

Td4 engine sounds like a hedge cutter

Hi John, My TD4 at 115k miles had exactly the same problem (2 weeks ago), a hedge cutter noise sums it up perfectly. My limit is simple mechanics, upgrades and servicing so it's in the hands of a trusted garage. Their verdict was the crank/conrods and suggested looking at a replacement engine...

    Salvageable Engine Parts

I'm a hoarder too which is why my shed and garage hasn't room for an engine :) The old engine was on 115k miles so some parts might not be too desireable. I'm just looking to recoup what I can to soften the blow of forking out for the engine and fitting
