more like 50%. the defender engines are de-tuned to enable them run in any climate and run on any crap diesel. the tuning sets up the engine to run on British climates and decent fuel quality. if you start to go down the root of upgrading turbo's etc (200 +) then you will start to strain some...

thanks. yes all the original plastic trim / channels needs to be replaced. some got damaged due to rusted fixing screws.

well. was none of the above. stripped the motor down and found one of the armature magnets had come unstuck from the body and been grinding on the armature. cleaned and araldited back in place. works a treat.
