The idea with the copper pipe is exactly what I intended to do on my disco, but then one of the old boys i work with used to be on a council sewer gang, and their lorry was the nut in terms of some of the mods they made to it. He said they tried the coper pipe on the exhaust, but found it didn't...

Just a quick one, does anyone know the part number for the disc that goes on the front of the rear stub axle? Just fixing a leak, and the disc/shield thing is rusted through. Just fitting the new springs and shocks to the front of the disco. Got new shocks by armstrong. But on looking at them, one of them has much greater resistance than the other. Is this normal? Will it stiffen with time, or just be useless? Cheers all.

I tried everything to get mine off. Even jacking the car up and lowering it onto the wrecking bar. In the end i went in from the passenger side leg first and just kick the hell out of it. It moved eventually. Just persevere.

Must be honest, when they came nosing round my disco, I said it was seized, and then put up security camera the next day. that was a year ago, and touch wood, still there. erm, actually, i better just go check....

Ok, well I've dumped a ton of plusgas on, and I'll see what happens tomorrow. Hope that works. Really get fed up with stuck bolts, cos the previous 13 owners could blooming well do a bit of maintenance!

Ok well partial success. The half inch bi hex has undone the bottom bolt a treat and I will remember from now on to use the 1/2 inch not 13mm. But the top bolt is still slipping. Cant get any purchase on it. Been trying that one with a 12mm bi hex as I said with no joy. Is there a 15/32nds bi...

Ok, well i'm not sure there is room to weld a nut on top of the bolt, as the caliper is in the way. And I've tried whacking a smaller socket on. I might give a 1/2" a try though, as the 12mm didn't really get any grip. And the link wasn't working, but yes I might get a set of them at some point...

Hi all, I'm really struggling with removing the caliper bolts on my disco mk1. I tried with a 13mm bi hex but they're so worn, it just slipped. Tried with a 12mm bi hex hitting it on, but no joy. Also tried carefully heating the caliper, but still stuck fast. I'm really stumped, any sudgestions...

Right after just over an hours mucking about, its back on! So thanks guys, and yes I was referring to the mud shield/locking ring, not the brake disc mud shield. Thanks all!
