    Bleeding brakes

Hi, I need to bleed the brakes on my P38A DT and I'd appreciate some clarification of the instruction for doing the rear calipers. The instructions say: 16. Bleed each of rear calipers, starting with driver's side caliper first, then repeating steps 16 to 18 for rear passenger side caliper. Open...

p38 1995 2.5 diesel air bag suspension help

When I replaced my airsprings it took a quite a few attempts to get the airline to disconnect from the airbag. I almost gave up on the first one but eventually it came out. The next two came out easily but the last one again took several goes. Hope this helps. mikeateves

    P38 Diesel engine judder

Hi, My P38 diesel has the same juddering feel when the engine is not under load. Most noticeable around 1500RPM. Can anyone advise on checking the engine mounts please? How do you check them? How do I tell if they need replacing? Thanks, mikeateves

    Brake pads query

Hi, I was wondering if anyone could confirm what are the correct rear brake pads for my 96 P38 DT? I have been supplied with Mintex MDB1401 replacement pads but these aren't listed on the Mintex site for this vehicle (they have MDB2470)! The back plate looks identical to the old pads but the...

    Bleeding brakes

Hi, I've just replaced the rear discs and pads on my 96 P38 DT and decided to renew the brake fluid. I followed the instructions in the workshop manual but hit a problem when I got to the rear brakes. According to the manual I turn on the ignition and press the brake peddle and the fluid should...

    Hot Start fix Side effects

I seem to recall reading a recommendation not to use the connectors supplied with the hotfix kit but to solder the wires. This is because the connectors oxidise over time resulting in increased resistance in the circuit which can adversely affect the engine management. I'm interested to know how...

im sorry to say this is not an aprils fool joke

Getting back to the original problem :) Here's a suggestion.. Do you have a significant difference in tread depth between the tyres on the rear axle? Can't remember the exact figure but you're only allowed about 2mm max difference. A big difference in tread depth over sufficient distance driving...

HELP its all goin t*ts up,new airbag

I presume your talking about the retaining pin. I had the same problem with mine. I just used a cold chisel right against where it comes out of the base of the airbag and chopped it off both sides. The front ones are a bit more awkward, I had to undo the bottom of the shock absorber to get...

new boy needs help (rear air bag swap)

Hi, You'll need a trolley jack with a decent lift height and a couple of good axle stands. You should be able to depressuise the system enough by dropping the suspension to access level before jacking the back end up (leave the tailgate open to stop the system pumping it back up). If you have...

    rain water

P38s are also known to leak around the front door seals. Seems the rubber eventually loses its flexibility and doesn't seal against the door properly. If this is the cause either replace the door seals or push some wire flex behind the seals to pack it out. mikeateves

    Replacing/changing Height sensors

Hi, I'm wanting to check my height sensors. My question is, as the EAS is still active with the engine off will disconnecting the sensor put the EAS into fault since there will not be any signal while it is disconnected? Should I disconnect the battery first? Thanks, mikeateves

    p38 diesel

The one time I had a similar problem was due to flat batteries in the remote. To resync the key try the following: Put key in ignition and turn to position 2. Turn ignition off and remove key. Exit vehicle and close driver's door. Put key in driver's door lock and press lock button on remote and...

Hi, Thanks for that. I don't fancy lugging my desktop outside so I'll just have to wait for my son to bring his laptop back from uni :). Mike

    Height sensor

Hi, The front n/s corner of my '96 P38 DT tends to sit higher than the other corners and occasionally the n/s will be noticably higher than the o/s when left on the level. I'd like to test the height sensor(s) output to see if any needs replacing. Any advice on how to do this please? If the...

    Air Springs replaced...Ha, Ha, Ha!!!!!!!!

Use a thin cold chisel and hammer to chop the ends of the pin off. If you can make a dint in the pin near where it goes into the spring housing you may be able to break it off by bending it down with a large screwdriver - that's what I did. To do the front springs I had to undo the bottom ends...

    Suspension height P38

Hi, Was the suspension level before you changed the airbags? I recently changed all 4 airbags and now my P38 is a bit higher on the nsf (only a few mm though) - 5cm is a BIG difference. The independent LR garage suggested the suspension may need recalibrating after having new airbags fitted...

    P38 Glove Box Gap

Are you sure the glovebox is latching? Can you hear it click when you close it? It should latch at both sides. It has a damper on it which means it won't drop open even if not latched. Not sure if there is any adjustment but maybe your catches are broken or jammed open. mikeateves
