Well I have found a solution until this makes it to the top of the list of problems. Basically the door locks perfectly, it’s only an issue unlocking, if I unlock the latch isn’t coming al the way down, but if I give the outside of the door a quick bang it all falls into place lol...

When you say strip it down do you mean the lock itself or the solenoid? I suspect given that the lever still moves it is probably a solenoid problem... Fairly easy I assume to remove the door card and get at it all? :-)

Yeh I must admit when I told the lady I had found the leak and it was just a seal she said ‘oh that will be quite cheap to fix’ i was a bit shocked when I looked and it was 65 quid!

Well I found out the reason why only one footwell has a carpet... the one without seems to have a nice like Guess a new seal and rubber mat it is

The interior of my defender is in pretty good shape but one thing that bugs me is there is no carpet in the drivers footwell. I have found various places that do the Premium Carpet Set for approx £175, but all I am really after is the piece for the two footwells as per this link...

Na definitely wasn’t driving home in diff lock - didn’t have it out of high speed non diff lock since I picked it up. The diagnosis was wrecked front diff... no idea what part of the diff, just that the garage looked inside and said there wasn’t much in there

That’s great to know for next time thanks, yes I will use the warranty this time, but I guess the Engineer in me wants to understand what has gone wrong and what to look out for next time, and ultimately how to repair it mysef if possible :-) :-) thanks everyone. Can’t wait to get Rory back on...

Not sure what they did - I asked them to do whatever service they needed to do to ensure the whole drive train was covered by the warranty as I was wary of transfer boxes etc... glad I did now!

Thanks :-) So what prevents the engine stalling when you pull the clutch out? Is it basically just going into gear easily because all the power is going through that one wheel, basically thinking I have done a slick gear change.. ?

Yeh Exactly and they can foot the bill for 250 miles on the back of the lorry! Out of interest looking around it seems it’s a half shaft potentially, why does that prevent movement in high or low range? Or even the engine stalling. So basically I could put it into gear and just pull the clutch...
