Right the findings are in, The IRD has a 4 inch crack in it. The rear diff seems untouched, thankfully maybe have been down to the slow speed of the failure. I have a VCU on order from BELL Engineering, new vcu bearings and as a precaution i'd ordered a diff mount kit (so will get that lobbed...

Cheers for the offer but had the AA pick it up today and take it to my man for investigation. Had some fun and games getting it on and off the flat bed but the chap did a great job using little plastic skids. Just waiting now for the verdict

I'm just outside Swindon. so the only certainty at the minute is a replacement VCU. Gonna see if I can get a nice AA man tomorrow to get the prop off so we can get it shifted.

I want to do it all at once really he'll have the VCU's on tues-weds just no bearings for them. got the bits roughly lined up at 700 worst case scenario for the the 3, IRD,VCU and Diff. Any thing else needed, i know about the vcu bearings.

Really?, if it is the diff would the vcu still need replacing as well?? Sorry about all the Q's I've spoken to bell, but mainly about the vcu, seems a decent price but he hasn't got the bearings for it, where's the best place for them? I'm thinking while it's in to get it all sorted properly

If the ird's shot is it too late to swap it to 2wd? or if can you 2wd with a dead rear diff? Is the prop removal easy? wouldn't know where to start

Can't see any obvious leaks, might be a small leak from the rear of the engine but the roads wet and it's hard to tell can't see anything dripping. it's not really in a position for me to be able to jack it up. Tried pushing it, will move slightly with a clicking noise that seems to be coming...

Not liking the sound of all that, whats the likely wallet damage for that little lot? Just been out for another nose the clutch is defo ok, gearbox feels ok, but it absolutely stinks of oil.

Our 2003 td4 has just ground to a halt, there's been no noises rumblings or warning signs. This morning with the wife driving it started holding back like the handbrake was coming on, then it spluttered and kicked the rear end out sideways so she parked it up.She said it made a clunk like...

Demister Dial won't rotate fully left of right

Ok just been out to it and had another look, it seems i am getting airflow to the screen, BUT only through the passenger side vents, nothing through the drivers side which is a pain

Demister Dial won't rotate fully left of right

I have an issue where the dial that controls the air flow, doesn't seem to want to turn to it's full extent in either direction. We tried to demist the screen for the first time today and when turned it to the screen position it sort of bounces back and doesn't engage to blow on the screen. All...

    Looking at buying a 2000 (W) freelander Xdi-info required

we owned a v6 gs last year and quite enjoyed it, we fancy another freelander but it needs to be a diesel. We're going to look at a 2000 Xdi with 114k fsh, recent cambelt and very well looked after (apparently). What do i need to keep an eye out for? is this a good version of the freelander...
