+1. If you're planning on doing lanes around the country rather than just local, traveling large distances in a series isn't for everyone.

To be honest mate, Defenders, Disco's & RR's are pretty capable vehicles as they come and you don't need to spend shed loads of money prepping them for laning. After you get one, any money you have left over spend on any faults that need doing/rectifying rather than off road mods. No good having...

Welcome. Best vehicle to buy really depends on what you want out of it and the kind of use you'll give it, and budget.

If a Defender was out of the equation, I reckon I'd be looking at either a jeep JK or G Wagen (not that I could afford a new G Wagen). As nice as some of the other Land Rover models are, they just don't appeal to me.

Mine had a seized wastegate when I bought it. It might show overboost on diagnostics but you won't get a MIL from that (mine never did anyway).

That sounds about right, mine was a late "F" reg (just before the G came out) and had the smooth roof. I remember reading before I took delivery of mine that they were changing.

Yeah perhaps I should have been more clear, what I meant was mine didn't have external ribs. I think there was internal ones under the roof lining.

The 1989 Hardtop 90 I bought brand new came with the smooth roof from the factory.

Yes mate mine's Rioja. Quite probably is a LR colour, just not Rioja. Alveston is a maroon like red like yours, and there was also a maroon in use when the 300Tdi was in production (not sure of the name of it though). I only ever saw a couple of those around but it was a beautiful colour and...

Not always easy to tell the exact colour in photos, especially with metallic colours, but it looks more like Alveston red, Rioja red is a bit lighter and less maroon.
