Never had the problem but you could try riveting them shut or a bit of silicone and a small nut / bolt combo that doesn't restrict water flow. If you wanted to go all out, find someone who can TIG weld and get them to fill the holes with nice new ally. -Tom

Are the pulleys interference fit on a 300tdi? Would you think it is possible that the pulley has moved forward on the shaft, intermittently binding and driving the shaft whilst otherwise rotating redundant?
