Other Be careful what yer tow

Can I just clarify... I was very careful what I said... which was to command a little more power.... to restore a situation where the car was towing the trailer and not the trailer pushing the car.... and not enough power to noticeably increase the speed. Obviously this would not be appropriate...

Other Be careful what yer tow

I've just wtached it... He will have been significantly over weight I think - That trailer looks like an Ifor which would be around 800-900 Kg and the van probably another 1600-1800Kg? However a correctly loaded and configured trailer should be okay even if overweight. He seems to make no...

New off road tyres and size ??

Oponeo often good for tyres. You may want to think about dropping to 16" rims - more choice, bigger sidewall potential and cheaper.

    Off roading

The more common Freelander 1 rims are as cheap as chips on ebay. I have a set of 16" if you live near E Yorks?

    Off roading

+1 Off road tyres are the single most significant mod you need to make by some margin. If you only change one thing - get some AT or MT tyres. As has been said this is much cheaper and you have far more options on 15 and 16 inch rims.

    BREAKDOWN RECOVERY COMPANIES

In this day and age I think there are recovery companies and breakdown companies. Only the AA, RAC have half trained technicians in vans full of computers, spare parts and tools. They have by far the greater chance of getting you going again. Most other agencies (e.g. Green Flag) have...

Good point well made on the bricks... Get these - for £13 you cant go wrong...

track rod end right hand side freelander

It is much more difficult but I guess can be done. If you are asking because you don't have a workshop jack or axle stands, then it would be safer that way but you could still jack the car up using the spare wheel jack and then support the car with wooden blocks or bricks etc. and/or slide the...

    Freelander 2 (LR2) Reliability over 100k?

There is great support for older, less exotic Land Rover models through the likes of Britpart and Bearmach.

Freelander 1 Smoking TD4 failed MOT. Any pointers welcomed.

Would agree with the earlier point that on older diesel engines - you can really see and improvement after a dirty oil change.

    Back into the hippo fold...

Mee too.... or the Turbo engine from the Coupe' or 620... Have had a go in a 1.8VVC Metro Van many years back and that was very amusing...

Is it legal to tow another Freelander on a transporter trailer?

Yep - that's quite true... Technically under the current legislation towing a 740Kg car using an a-frame or dolly is not legal as the brakes wont work - even though it is under the weight limit for requiring a braking system.
  13. T

Is it legal to tow another Freelander on a transporter trailer?

Dollies and A-frames are not legal in the UK unless the towing car is registered as a recovery vehicle. Trailer law applies, so if you have a car on a A-frame or dolly, as it is fitted with a braking system it must work on all wheels in contact with the road via an overrun coupling (especially...

    Freelander 1 Battery size

It's not so much the capacity of the battery (Ah) it's the Cold Cranking Amps (CCA) figure which may give you starting problems. As others have said - there are lots of good reasons to fit the biggest battery that will fit. And a good make...

Freelander 1 12v battery info please.

The 3Ah drop in capacity will make no noticeable difference, it would only be a concern if you used lots of accessories or tended to leave the car parked with its lights on for long periods. What is more relevant, especially in winter, it’s the current capacity aka cold cranking amps (CCA). If...

    Freelander 1 2004 Facelift TD4 - Error Code P0100 MAF short circuit

Update: I've tried two more MAF's - one genuine Bosch but second hand, one new pattern part - and the same result - a MAF reading of 2,000+ at idle. That's three MAF's recording the same.... confusing. Does anyone know the pin wiring for the MAF, is it possible to use a multimeter to check...

Td4 bluish smoke on cold start

If it is blue(ish) smoke then I would suggest more likely to be oil burning rather than fuel. Hence as you are only getting it at startup the most likely cause is valve stem oil seals. Depending on the age/mileage of the engine, most would regard this as "commensurate".
