I have the same noise on my 90, I have had the dash off a couple of times and sprayed wd40 in but it hasn't worked. I didn't leave it face down for a while though. I'll give that a go if it gets bad again.

If you did the rubber would have fallen off from the backing!

A defender 200tdi was 103 bhp as standard with 111bhp for a 200tdi from a disco. I think the P38 2.5 was around 134 bhp. I'm sure I will be corrected if wrong :rolleyes:

I just bought one of these (ebay item: 280314034045 ) looks like a nice piece of kit and comes with a pair of shackles too. I went for an 8 mtr one so I can get a good distance away and double up if needed.

I too had a strange whirring for a time that only came on after a while.... it turned out to be a noisy speedo head, if I lent on the dash just above the speedo it would quiet down a bit! It settled down on it's own after a long run.

In my view the best defender engine is a running one :biggrin1: outside of that it's a bit academic!

I had to warm up the door panel on my 90 the other day to be able to get the door unlocked too. Fun this weather!!!

It might be that I've a poor connection there and the fact that it worked again might support that. I don't fancy lying in the snow under it to find out though!! That's partly why I was wondering what else it might be to check first.

I had an odd one today, I went to start the 90 today and turned the key and got nothing except the usual dash lights, no sign of the starter trying, I stuck it in gear and rocked it to no effect. Has anyone tried NGK glow plugs, they sell at about £40 a set, I can't imagine they will be tat but would prefer to hear if anyone has tried them or I'll be ordering a set of the genuine ones.

yep, a bend in the track rod will pull the rear of the wheels in giving you a tow-out this will wear the inside edges of your tyres and make your truck wander a bit.
