Thanks for the info. That makes sense. It was a tow truck with crane in its first incarnation, so helper springs would make sense.

It's possible, I was hoping someone would know for sure. Just seemed a strange place for them to be.

My series IIA has large cups under the bump stops. Any ideas why? And they do interfere with the axel straps. I'm about to move the axels yo a new chassis and am thinking of just grinding them off in the move.
