Netbook / laptop mounting in defender.

Simply because the satnav doesn't show lanes, and memory-map does, plus you can zoom in close so that you don't miss the gate entrance etc.

    Auto box fluid change

I did my auto 300TDi last year, I don't remember it being too awkward. it's certainly worth doing, the gear changes will be much better.

    bottle jack or hi lift

Hi-lift jacks are lethal if you aren't careful, especially when lifting a Landrover vehicle with the handbrake on the transmission. A trolley jack is much more stable, but you also need to consider the width for better stability especially if it's going to be used off road. I have a wide, Sealey...

    Disco cold starting

If your vehicle is a manual, try pressing the clutch and keep it pressed as you start it, that way it's not dragging all the gears round in the g/box, only turning the engine over.

    Rock sliders

Easy enough to fit. as has already been said, they slid up the tube on the chassis then a bolt with washer holds them from behind the chassis, so make sure the tube is in good order and cleaned out inside. The front connects to the bolt that holds the body to the outrigger, so once again, the...

HELP PLEASE - just got the MOT drove it on the drive and

Are you sure that you're using the -ive terminal for earth? (Seen the opposite done!) If you are, then you have a major short for it to burn out the earth strap. I'd be looking at the +ive leads from the battery, starter & alternator as these are direct to the battery, so there is no fuse...

Snow in Lancashire - at last!

umpteen cars from a smart car to a big merc, one 7.5 tonner. I wanted a go at the artic waiting his turn, but cars kept sneaking past him then getting stuck, so he just stopped the engine and got his flask & butties out whilst watching the antics.

    300 TDi Heater/Blower

Common problem is that the bits of foam that are tucked into the vents at the back edge of the bonnet sometimes get into the heater blower & jam it (mine did!) once you've got it out, just touch +ive & -ive to the 2 wire terminals, according the the Haynes manual, the green wire is +ive, with...

    4x4 tyres

Not to mention that a lorry tyre is blown up to 110 psi, so when they go, they go!!

    300 TDi Heater/Blower

You can get to the heater blower quite easily, unclip the kick panel from underneath the glove-box and fold it down, now look upwards towards to centre of the dashboard, you'll see the heater & heater fan there. Disconnect the wire plug, remove the 3 PK screws, and the heater fan just comes out...

300tdi Diff Lock light stuck on

Jack an axle up, then turn 1 wheel, if the other wheel turns the same way, the difflock is stuck on. if it turns in opposite direction, then it's just the switch. also try driving in figure of 8 slowly to release it
  15. G

    Breathers

They come with 90º elbows that screw into the axles etc, you "push fit" the plastic tube into the other end of the elbow. we've used this type for years in industry.

    diff lock problem

If you have it in difflock, and 1 wheel on each axle is slipping / spinning, then your difflock is working fine. The difflock only locks up the transfer box, sending drive to both axles equally, now the diffs in the axles are not locked, so if 1 wheel on 1 axle slips, the other axle is still...

    Discovery Rear Winch Bumper

:) At lease he took it off-road! the ones that get my back up are the posers with all the gear fitted but have never been off tarmac. I was getting some parts for our local Landy merchant, when I came out there was a 90 defender just parking up, it looked the dogs do-dahs! it had every...

    Discovery 300 Brake Problem

The adjuster nut is on the lower part of the backplate, sunken into a "well" and the size is either 17 or 19mm. you will find it easier if you *feel* around the bottom of the backplate. Either the shoes are frozen to the drum (most likely) or the cable has frozen, (you'd feel no resistance when...

New discovery driver - can someone talk me through the basics please?

you're right Bromsgrove D. I did mean off-road, and I also said that it's just a very basic guide to driving off road, and that with more experience his style will change. I also should have said, select the gear and start off in it, you can start off very easily in 3rd low.I still see people...

Transfer Case Hi Low Shifting Issue

Make sure that you're shifting it correctly. You need to be moving slowly, preferably in a straight line, main stick in neutral, then change the range. hopefully that should sort it, but if it doesn't, then it sounds like your linkage has a problem. if it's still giving problems, then you need...
