How to check for overheating damage?

I assume the head is strong enough not to crack until it has properly overheated and I also assume there is a red warning light when it does? In which case, even if my gauge was stuck at 12, there was no red warning light (ever) so fingers crossed. Thanks Nik

How to check for overheating damage?

Island 4x4 said "only genuine Landrover or Nissens, everything else has a high failure rate". It's a Nissens one I've just fitted tonight and its running much better. Nik

How to check for overheating damage?

'ere, see this thread: http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f10/diesel-p38-radiator-baffle-not-236640.html Complete with youtube video that shows you one way of testing. Another is to use a cheap usb endoscope off ebay for less than £15 - which is the only way if you don't want to take the rad out...

How to check for overheating damage?

Yes, seems ok. Fuel economy and performance unchanged from before the burst rad. But at least when I pop the bonnet, it's not like getting off the airplane at a Greek airport in mid summer anymore! :)

How to check for overheating damage?

Got new radiator today (with baffle, I checked before I fitted it) and already it's running cooler. The temp gauge is around 11 o'clock rather than 12 o'clock on a short run. I never saw it go in to the red or anything, but I have been driving around for around a month with a rad with no baffle...

Diesel P38 radiator baffle or not

Update: AL Services have been straight on it this morning. Offered to post out a replacement FOC - I'd already ordered a replacement from Island though. No problem, post the old one back for inspection and I'll get a full refund, inc P&P - and possibly some of the labour costs back. Considering...

    First P38 Advice

I did my research on here and bought a 2002 model with 90k on the clock, this was last August so I've had it a year. I checked everything: EAS worked All electrics worked No leaks Great, I bought it. *It developed a central locking fault - cured by replacing the boot button *Developed an oil...

Diesel P38 radiator baffle or not

This is getting confusing now :) That was a video of MY marble test on the rad in question filmed yesterday. So I know there is a lack of baffle. What I don't know is if it was there and has broken, or was never there. That would be the most interesting thing - although it wouldn't change the...

Diesel P38 radiator baffle or not

Hopefully for the sake of anyone else buying one! Because if it's a design fault, there'll be loads of issues for a load of people. If I get a replacement, I may take the top off and look. But that depends on what I have to do with this 1 month old one as it should be under warranty. Nik

Diesel P38 radiator baffle or not

Yeah, but are the all duff then? As it's the EXACT same one (completed with blanked-off & unused bottom hose connectors) as I have. Island, Paddocks, P38spares and Britpart (via phone) say that there is only one and I have the correct one. But it has no baffle. And the bottom of the radiator was...

    Water pump removal

Good advice I agree, except it's only 3 weeks old. Why oh why didn't I have the pump done when it was in the garage with a burst rad. :) Ok, I'll take it off if it's not that hard. tnx Nik

    Water pump removal

Doing my water pump this weekend. Looked at RAVE. Do I really need to take the radiator out? With the fan off, there looks to be enough space, or isn't there? Advice from those that have done it would be appreciated before I either break something or do it the hard way! :) tnx Nik

Alarm going off at home and at night

I have the MK2 receiver in mine, not the latest MK3. I put ferrite coils around all leads, wrapped the receiver plastic box in tin-foil, earthed it as best I could and never had a problem. When I did have a problem with cycling locks, it was the other well-known issue with a dodgy boot lock...

Split rad. It's happening a lot recently as I know. They are plastic on the top and flex with heating and cooling and then split with age.

    Replacement keys

Yep, thats the bit I'm querying. I'm more than happy that it will unlock the car and drive it away, but not allow the memory positions to be set on the seats. Its only a small thing, but annoying nontheless. However, Mozz says it will work. So I'll see. What I don't get is how it would work...

    Replacement keys

£162 inc vat and delivery. Which in one sense, for the security of having a spare key, is money well spent. But there was no mention of having to have it programmed. Of course I'm at work and don't have the Rangie with me so can't test it yet... Nik
