thanks James will have a look tomorrow and see if I can make sense of this. Wonder whether the camshaft sprocket could be a replacement (from another engine) or something like that but I think most cams were the same in the series world at that time.

I agree, not sure how to proceed as both valves should be closed in compression and I have it set up as per book, can't be the crank in wrong position as chain not on!

Quick up date - after looking at the picture I posted it looks like, due to the angle of the engine stand I was aligning with the wrong hole on the timing case. Now it seems that when aligned with the top hole, the cam is on the overlap between exhaust and inlet - is this ok?? still seems odd to me

not yet wanted to be sure of the timing first

Hi All, Finally getting my 2a back together after a Gearbox, Transfer and Engine Rebuild (ongoing) and was finishing off the rebuild of the Overdrive. Had a look at the mainshaft endfloat and it seemed too much for me even though no figures are published (or not found) but I thought 0.2-0.3mm...

I'm not saying you can't, just sharing my experience. If cleaning I would consider getting them tested maybe before but definitely after cleaning.

Hi this was a while ago now - I think all that was done on the handbrake was the rear output seal and lubed up. Did a complete overhaul an a series 1 more recently though

Managed to be in contact with Dave Ashcroft (where it was bought from) and he confirmed that they should not come apart and would be better to change it, faulty or not ?? no idea but better to be safe. Thanks for your input
