    Rear sensors

They don't usually survive being removed and new ones are needed. Best to free off brakes first and recheck whether lights go out. Most likely the handbrake pivot seized. Remove it, heat it, work the pivot, lubricate and rebuild. To take the sensors out you may be lucky to slide a 17mm...

Avoid upping the wattage though, stick with 60/55s so any of the 'clearer' or 'brighter' ones will do.

    Engine immobilised - transmission failure

That should just be it and the radio of course. Main thing to remember when taking the old battery off is to prevent the back up alarm going off. In other words, slacken the terminals, switch on the ignition, switch off (and put the key in your pocket!!!) and within 17 seconds pull the earth...

    Engine immobilised - transmission failure

Definitely the battery, as above. 072 is the standard but I have a 644 - it's bigger but the terminals are the correct way round and it spins the engine like it was a 1600! Check this company Car Battery - Car Batteries - Motorcycle Batteries - Leisure Batteries - Cheap Prices! Good for...

    Engine immobilised - transmission failure

Do the lights dim if you try and start it with them on? If not then there is no power going to the starter and you will need to reprogramme the codes. Try the EKA code first. Is there any offer at all from the starter or is it just nothing when you turn the key to the start position?

    Blip Key Entry Problem

If power has been lost for whatever reason then the fob can lose synchronisation with the car. This can be for several reasons, low battery in the car or by changing the fob batteries. What you are doing is actually how to resynchronise it - pressing the lock button rapidly four times should do...

    Extended height setting

To be honest it's done it all through the summer as well. I too often hold it on the inhibit switch but it'll do it whenever it's switched back in the auto setting. Often when turning left as well so I'm thinking sensor(s). Maybe check them come the spring.

    Extended height setting

Just a quick one! Now and again my 2000 P38 rises to the flashing top light on the EAS switch. This tells me it's going up to the highest setting, even beyond the wade height. Handbook tells me it'll do this if it gets grounded so it will tip toe out of whatever it's in. Problem is it happens...

    stopped by the police

Three reasons for a breath test (road or public place), 1 Moving Traffic Offence, 2 Alcohol suspected or 3 Involved in accident Any other 'random' test is merely a request to present figures to the press and show that "something is being done to tackle a problem". Interesting legal...

    Alarm problems

Three ways of re-synching a key. 1996 models should be by locking the car by turning the key in the handle take the key ouit then pressing the lock button within a few seconds. If that doesn't work then it's key in, turn to lock and hold, press lock button, turn to unlock, press unlock...

    hill descent broken

Sounds like it is working ok. Maybe it is so efficient it's making you think otherwise. Is it holding the car back at all or just rolling on? It should feel like it's stuttering down the hill, kind of like (apologies for what's coming but)..Two Alzheimers patients doing a conga!

When it does work! I am forever chasing around changing sensors, etc when the three lights come on.

    hill descent broken

What do you mean by all the lights working? The only one on should be the green one and you will get the buzzing as the abs catches the wheels as they lose traction. Any more lights than that on then there is a fault. How old is the car? The other option is that your tyres aren't gripping at all...

    Alarm problems

If the man in the car accessory shop broke your key then he is liable for it's replacement or repair (have you seen the cost and availability of these things??!!). He probably forced in 2032 batteries instead of the slightly thinner 2025 ones.

    Washer pump motors

I recently had to change one for the front windscreen on a P38. On doing so I noticed each of them are colour coded, black, white or blue. Does anyone know if they are the same item just with a different coloured bit on them or is there anything specifically different? The connector looks the...

P38 Drivers Door Handle Problem...Advice Please.

Sub zero temps can make the locks play up although probably one of the rods popped off. Quite a simple fix if it is. As I recall one of the rods has a plastic catch on it which can jump off or snap. Need to take the card off to check. Remember the hidden screw behind the small corner speaker! If...

    P38 Headlights cutting out

Good place to start would be the light switch if everything it controls is going off. It would only really be the battery connection if you noticed the needles drop too as all power would be lost. Give the switch a tap when switched on to try and simulate the fault.

"Ignition key in" message staying on

Maybe worth a gentle squirt from an air line too. WD40 can encourage clog-up after it has moved the dirt around to let the terminals contact again. As far as the low battery is concerned, its worth a check on the alternator too as the electrics do take a battering in this weather and the battery...

    Air Bag Light.....

.........as above, make sure the battery is good and check the alternator is putting out 14.4 Volts. Next to check are the connectors but as there are several airbags in the car where do you start? Most likely to be the one in the steering wheel as it is subject to the most movement. Look to the...
