    Help, is my flywheel shot?

Me yet again! As you'll know I'm swopping engines between my two Discoverys. Now on removing the clutch cover, seemed a good idea to replace the clutch while the engine's out, I find that there is play between the two parts of the flywheel. A little in rotation and about an 1/8 inch in and out...

    Engine swap and ECU?

Hi all, As you may know following my earlier postings I'm swapping engines between my two Discovery's. Todays questions are based on the ecu. I'm swapping the ECUs keeping the relevant one belonging to each engine ( so that I don't have to recode for the injectors avoiding disturbing the rocker...

    Starter motor, urgent

As you'll see from my earlier post I'm lifting the TD5 engine from my Discovery. Now does anyone know if I need to remove the starter motor? According to Mr Hayes it does have to be done on an automatic, to gain access to the drive plate bolts but do I need to do it on my manual? Looks like a...

    lifting out engine.

Thanks for that Seffy. Urgent can anyone tell me if the starter needs to be removed? I understand that it does for an automatic transmission to gain access to the drive plate but does it need to come away on a manual? Pig of a job!

    lifting out engine.

Hi again everyone, As you may have seen from my earlier posting I've decided to swop engins between my two Discovery TD5s. I've read how to do it according to Mr Haynes and I've searched RAV but neither tell me how to remove the eight bolts between bell housing and block! Mr Haynes reminds me...

Noisy head again but new question.

Thanks for all your help, I've now desided to swop engines between my two Disco 2s and defer the head job until a later date when I may have better workshop facilities. Going to now start a new thread on getting the engine out. I've hunted high and low for some advice but the search engines...

Noisy head again but new question.

Thanks all for your input, the u-tube links were very helpful. I've bought one lash adjuster from Rimmers (£12.74) to have as a comparison to the ones that I remove. I'll trying and add a photo of it. There is oil in it and a cap to prevent it draining out from the hole in the top and a plastic...

Noisy head again but new question.

Hi Mark, Thanks for your comments. Following them I now feel that I have no option but to lift the head if only to check that the oil supply is clear. I'm convinced that the trouble all stems back to that job having been entrusted in the first place to a "troop of monkeys" ! Last time that I...

Noisy head again but new question.

Thanks for your thoughts, Mark. RAVE fails on the subject of the "lash adjusters" as indeed does Mr Haynes! RAVE has given me a clue: there are 13 bolts for the camshaft carrier and 12 for the head which would lead me to hope that I can lift the camshaft without disturbing the head bolts and...

Noisy head again but new question.

Hi there, me yet again, A new suggestion has been made about my very noisy head, noise like badly out of ajustment conventional tappets. That the hydraulic tappets (called lash adjustors by land rover) are either worn, have been incorrectly fitted following a head gasket replacement or are not...

    10p head on 15p engine

Hi all, Sorry to raise an old very over worked subject! As you'll know from my previous posts I have a very sick 2004 td5 with I'm presuming a 15p cylinder head. Now I'm being offered a 10p head complete with camshaft and rocker shaft (head is new and complete except for injectors) . From...

    lifting out engine.

Thanks for your input. My thinking is that rather than have the struggle of lining up grarbox shaft into clutch platee in the car that it would be much easier out. Further I want to swop both engones and gearboxes. I will of course replace the clutch plates. Has anybody any suggestions as to...

    lifting out engine.

Hi all me again, I have two Discovery TD5s one 03 the other 04. The 03 has a very badly rusted chassis but a good engine the 04 is the other way round. I'm considering swapping the engines over. My question is this: is it possible to lift the engine out complete with the gearbox? I feel that it...

    Disco 2 galvanised chassis.

Hi all, My 2003, severn seat, TD5 has terminal chassis rust! I'm contemplating having a galvanised chassis fitted. I have the "know how" but not the facilities, would have enjoyed the project. Does anyone have experance of this job? Can anyone recommend a cpmpany, to do the job? Can anyone...

    TD5 rusted chassis thoughts please.

Thanks both for your input. Classikfan, sadly the chassis has also gone further forward as well. I thought it was just the rear section until l had it up on a lift.

    TD5 rusted chassis thoughts please.

I'd be very interested in other people's ideas on my quandary. I have 2 Discovery Td5 s a 2003 and a 2004. Now the 2003 has very terminal chassis rust but a better engine than the 2004. So what I'd like to open for discussion: do I replace the chassis at it seems a cost of about £3, 000, or...

    Td5 stiff gear lever.

Can anyone shed light on my problem please. The gear lever on my 2004 td5 manual is fine when I "waggle" it side to side before starting and changing gear on the move but after a hour or so on the motorway it's very stiff. It comes out of fifth gear no problem but is very tight across neutral...

    Injector adjustment, tips please?

Raywin, That's very interesting. Could you please be a little more specific as to where these lines are. I've not had a chance to look since finding your post but the only mark on my camshaft pulley is the one for the cam chain, which is out on my car! Regards, Mac.
