    Discovery 2 Misfire

Well the engine is now sorted and the lumpy misfiring gone, at great expense. I bit the bullet and pulled the head. Straight away I could see that the exhaust manifold top stud on number 1 pot was sheared. Also the manifold was badly warped, again at number 1 pot. Sure enough my engine being a...

    Steel Head Dowels

Hi all, I'm in the process replacing my cylinder head/gasket. The head I've removed had the ****ty plastic dowels, hence the head has moved. I've checked the posts on here regarding the Vin numbers that can use the steel dowels and believe mine is in the range but my parts supplier suggests it's...

    Discovery 2 Misfire

Well today I received a cheap fuel pressure gauge and managed to bodge together some fittings to take a reading from the fpr. All is good with fuel pump as I was getting a full 4bar pressure across the rev range. Now have a used set of injectors on the way and a compression tester with an...

    Discovery 2 Misfire

Hi Neilly, its the viscous fan bearing not the pulley bearing that's the problem in my case. Though knowing bloody Landrovers that will be next....

    Discovery 2 Misfire

Hi all, Been at the Disco again today. Removed the viscous fan (with known worn bearing) ever so slightly quieter but no change to lumpiness in revs or vibration. Did the workaround the waste gate by linking piping to cut out the modulator, sadly no change in engine lumpiness. I am strongly...

    Discovery 2 Misfire

Hi Ive been trying to chase down the problem again today (as well as pruning trees).I knew there was a bit of play in the fan bearing and had removed it before to see if things were quieter but it didn't change things much. Tried it again today and yes it is a touch quieter but no effect on the...

    Discovery 2 Misfire

Hi Yes I had that bloody job to do a few months ago, had an oil leak from the gasket of the oil cooler so gave all of that a good sort out while I was there. I'd had a look at the fuel pressure gauges and there a few in the market but I think the more you pay the more fittings come with it. I...

    Discovery 2 Misfire

Forgot to add. Not checked the fuel pump yet. I had it out once and it looked like the original. Is that what you were getting with the fuel pressure. Rather than spend loads on various bits of testing kit (though I like buying tools) I may drop the thing into my local Landy expert for a...

    Discovery 2 Misfire

Hi Neilly The water needs about half a cupful every month. As I mentioned no signs whatsoever of overheating just these very small bubbles which puts some doubt in my mind. I was wondering if maybe the head gasket has split between two cylinders? Not tried the modulator bypass yet, meant to but...

    Discovery 2 Misfire

I've now changed the fuel filter, no change in misfire. Have also changed the FPR and cleaned the fuel filter in the head, no change in misfire. I've a bit more time studying the misfire too. The misfire comes in at 1800 revs and actually remains throughout the rest of the rev range. Also...

    Discovery 2 Misfire

Hi again Ive been looking at the FPR repair kits. Are they any good. Ive read some poor reviews of them. Are there any you could recommend or would a complete new unit be the best option. Steve

Hi again Neilly Seems the Exel files didn't load as the site doesn't like the excel or CSC extensions

    Discovery 2 Misfire

Hi Neilly, Here are the files. Readings at idle speed, approx. 2000rpm and approx. 2600rpm. I see that on the cylinder reading No5 pot gives wide readings at higher revs but am led to believe these readings are only relevant at idle speed? Steve

    Discovery 2 Misfire

Hi Sierrafery I shall give the fuel filter a change as I have a new one. Though the last one is only a couple of thousand miles used. I'd thought about the FPR, would a pressure test on it show faults? No leaks from it by the way.

    Discovery 2 Misfire

Hoping someone can give some clues to solving an ongoing problem with my Disco 2001 TD5. I have searched the threads on this and other sites but none give a conclusive answer. For a while now I have had what appears to be a misfire on perhaps one cylinder that comes in at 2100 revs. This stays...
