    L series coolant leak

Hi All Our 1999 freelander 2.0l has developed a coolant leak. There is no water in the oil or oil in the water, and the system is not pressurised when the engine is running. I do not beliveit's the head gasket as there is a distinct smell of rad water around in the engine bay. But I cannot see...

    "L" series or td4?

Another view is that the L series is easier to repair as the engine has less electronics. They are good for 200,000 miles plus. In 2001 they changed the rear diff ratio to aleviate the vcu locking up. It certainly improved matters but not a total cure. Avoid the 1.8 Petrol due to head gasket...

    4 Mechanics baffled

Have no idea about clutch price. But the butterfly valve is easy to fit ,bought mine on ebay, get the metal type not plastic, for £40.00 2 years ago. I would have gone for a diesel no head gasket failures. Brian

    4 Mechanics baffled

Sound like two faults to me the revving problem being the famous sticking inlet/butterfly valve as for the other noise suspect clutch release bearing. Brian
