Got the linseed oil out today. Apart from having very soft hands now, my Freelander plastics also look quite good!

What fluid do I use in the clutch cylinders?

Thanks for the tips. Time to get it on the ramps & have a go!

What fluid do I use in the clutch cylinders?

I'm changing the clutch on my 2001 Td4 in the next week or so & just wanted to confirm what fluid I use? I had a look on the Rave disc but it didn't list it in the fluids & capacities section. I was going to use Dot4, is this what everyone else uses?

What have you done to your Freelander today

Ordered a Borg & Beck clutch kit today too. Have decided I'm going to stick with the DMF. Have been having problems with my dash clock turning itself off and not keeping time. A few weeks ago I was stuck on the M6 when they closed it when cleaning up an accident and I used the time to remove...

What have you done to your Freelander today

Got it muddy coming back from the beach, went to the dentist, didn't get a sticker or a lolly so came home and ordered a reconditioned VCU from Bell Engineering.

    Bonnet wheel carrier

The spot lights & hi-lift jack will be mounted to the nudge bar. Either I'll be sleeping in a roof tent or more likely in the car on a shelf in the boot & folded seats. Extended studs on the spare will probably be the best option. At least the rear door is hinged & braced with a piston.

    Bonnet wheel carrier

Then I'd be more worried about the floor rotting away before I even got a puncture!

    Bonnet wheel carrier

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone. I'm guessing the weight of the bonnet frame & bracing would be more weight over the front axle than the weight of carrying an additional spare wheel on the rear door over the rear axle. Rear carrier seems like less work.

    Bonnet wheel carrier

I was thinking of strengthening the bonnet with some 3mm chequer plate. Would the rear door hinges cope with the added weight of longer studs & an additional wheel?

    Bonnet wheel carrier

Mains roads to north Italy to stop off at a friends, then down to Gibraltar & into Morocco. It's the Morocco bit that worries me. Being a 2dr I've got the silly roof bars & even having tightened everything up the bars still have a bit of movement, so I don't want to load too much on the roof. My...

    Bonnet wheel carrier

I'm planning a long distance trip & would like to carry an additional spare wheel. The roof will be full so I'd like to mount a wheel on the bonnet. Is there a specific carrier I'd need or can I use a universal one? Has anyone else mounted a wheel on their bonnet? I was thinking of fitting...

What have you done to your Freelander today

I changed my Synergy 2a to setting 2. Keeps the power low enough so the clutch doesn't slip under hard acceleration! Still pretty quick in 2wd.

    Do you always replace nuts?

I always use a loctite type fluid. An extra strong one on suspension & steering part or where the nut won't be undone very often & a medium type for other areas more regularly accessed. Gives piece of mind knowing they will be there the next time I look!

Changed the dongle and all works perfectly! Sooooooooo nice not to have to reach that extra 12" to change the tracks and volume! Yes, I'm that lazy!

Water header tank...should it have a washer in the cap?

Found the washer but it had definitely seen better days. Had a rummage in the work van and found a new one. Will keep an eye on the water level and see what happens.

Water header tank...should it have a washer in the cap?

I drove to & from Manchester last weekend & having checked all the fluids before setting off I rechecked it all once I returned home. The Td4 hasn't used any oil but had used a small amount of water from the header tank. I've looked for any cracks but can't find any, but I did notice that the...
