I've done this recently, but wired up a switch in the boot as well (2 way switching with the one in front) so I could operate the light from the front or back. Mines a 3 door too.

Driving normally (mostly sensible with the odd heavy right foot moment) I'm getting about 30mpg. 7 miles to work, mostly 30-40 mph limits with a short run down a carriageway.

Slightly off topic but what's your opinion of those lights? How do they compare to a traditional halogen?

Tried mine again this morning and true enough, it doesn't work. I found this info from FrenchMike which may prove useful: Mine stopped at around 4mins 5 secs so looks like I'm looking at the glow plug. But also looked for the doser pump and found a lump of rust suspended by the fuel lines...

That makes sense, I had wondered if it was the circulating coolant making it warm, and I couldn't hear the doser pump either but im a bit deaf so put it down to me... oh well, one step forward.

Had a play with mine today so thought I'd add what little I discoveed to this great thread. Mine hasn't run at all during the really cold snap, so today I checked the ambient sensor. With the engine running I had 12v on one terminal - that's good so I linked the 2 terminals as shown earlier in...

The rear one has a jaunty flash of red to denote its for the rear, but they both fit either location / connection.

On the passenger side behind the fuse box there is a large grommet - you might see a small nipple - chop it off and feed some stiffish wire like a straightened coat hanger through as a feeder. Tape the others to that and heavy away. If you have aircon prepare to have grazed knuckles.

There was an episode of wheeler dealers where they had bespoke springs made for a mini Moke. The cost seemed fairly reasonable if I remember correctly, maybe source the company and have a chat (was British luckily).

I had an odd one with my washers last year. My fronts failed so I bought a new pattern pump (supposedly Brearmach from the auction site) but that didn't work (but if connected direct to battery it did). In fact with it connected the rear washers didn't work either... Point being, try...

From looking at pictures the 5 door has more in the way of upholstery whereas the 3 door is a bit more utilitarian (smaller door cards mean exposed painted metal on doors, same on B pillar). But you can still get the same toys on both I believe. Massive amounts of space for rear seat passengers...

Great post. I usually why away from playing with the fuel system, will fuel leak from the pipe when its disconnected? I.e. Should it be clamped before starting the job? Edit: the link doesn't seem to work, is this the kit...

A heated steering wheel sounds nice on these cold mornings, especially with my poor circulation. The cornering assist / braking thing. The wife's beetle has something like this and it's surprising how well it corners at speed for a fwd car! I've pushed it quite hard on a slippery roundabout...

Maybe something stupid... Just bought a set of 17" 6 spoke alloys (Freedom?) from the usual tat bazaar. From what I've read on here they should fit but stay tuned for questions about spacers...

You mean the Molle compatible ones? Get a cheap chest rig or plate carrier (air soft ones will do) and attach using the headrest supports at the top and a belt at the bottom?

Rave has the installation pretty well documented, worth taking a look there.
