First Hippo, with a buttload of faults

That's common, had it on mine. If you're lucky there may just be some tape over the LEDs, but more likely a shaved ape has levered them off. They are surface mount LEDs, but you can solder regular 12v leds in there place if you are careful. PITA but it is possible.

    synergy dashboard switch latching

Erm... Me again. I don't have a synergy but ive looked into reusing the standard aircon switches for other uses. It sounds like you need a change over switch so 12v is going into one wire or another depending on switch position? I know the aircon switch isn't wired this way but if I...

Bugger, oh well hopefully Longbolt can help.

    Help finding obsolete part

Britcar have always come through for me for obsolete parts, have they said it's definitely unavailable? They keep posting about buying up dealers old stock so you may still get lucky.

    Help finding obsolete part

Looks self adhesive? A bitter pill but you may have no choice but to buy new, any you prise off a scrapped car could be just as bad as the one you have. Or remove all of them?

    td4 extended breathers

Not sure exactly on the ird pipe, but I'm sure I don't have the usual hooked breather on the bulkhead. Then again, I was sure I had the turbo vent filter but when I looked to replace it the other day I couldn't find it... Traced the hose from the solenoid and sure enough there was no filter...

    td4 extended breathers

Glad you got it sorted. I'd be interested to see what's in the kit and where it goes - I actually thimk I'm missing the ird breather pipe.

    VCU change

Totally agree, I changed mine as soon as I could afford it (my car had no history either). Just figured it's an unknown, and it could cause major expense if it fails but it's cheaper to change than a clutch so why not. Mutter, grumble, still had to change the clutch as well...

    dropped a right clanger

I ordered my kit from eBay (same seller) and they were pretty quick. Didn't follow your earlier post, you've lost the metal spring clip for the leak off connector? I've got a few spares after fitting my new kit - I can pop a couple in the post for you if you like?

Yeah that's the set I used.

    2 year engine check up

I didn't check the vacuum hoses, I only had a couple hours and wanted to make sure I got the job in hand done before I get distracted. I'll probably have a recce in the week. Actually the turbo vent pipe was waisted in a few places, as you say probably worth renewing the lot. One vacuum hose...

    2 year engine check up

Had a fit of pique today and managed to get mine done. Here's the old... Bleurgh, don't thik this has seen the light of day for a while. Not as bad as some, hopefully that means the engine is running as it should. And the new Bought the wrong silicone hose kit, I should...

    2 year engine check up

Thanks G, where did you get the breather extension kit from? What started for me as a quick filter change has resulted in a box full of air filter, BMW crankcase breather, vent filter, egr bypass, silicone hoses and the leak off pipe upgrade that Arctic2 demo'd. Every time I thimk I'm ready to...

    2 year engine check up

Good stuff, got a box of tricks to do a similar "top end refresh" on mine. Just need a few hours without threat of rain. What's the breather kit? Is it a set of parts or something you've pieced together? Be interested to see pics of where it all goes.

    off road tyres on back

It's a bit of a logical conundrum. Yes the off road tyres would be taller but the handbook says a pair of new tyres on the red is ok - and these would be taller so what's the problem? However I can say from experience that when I got mine the previous owner had done this, and soon there was a...

    Brass neck, Freelander image theft

Noticed that listing (came up on an alert), thing is if they can't be bothered to take a photo how does a buyer know the condition? Wouldn't buy it based on that alone.

    Tyre advice needed

When I got mine it had off road tyres on the back and road tyres on the front. It soon made a horrific noise like gearbox whine. Changed them to a full matched set and all is well. So yeah, I'd change them sharpish, at least a good pair on the rear axle (that still match the fronts).

    Turbo Pipe Splitting

I plan to get a set of 3 DPH hoses and T clamps when I get paid, seem to be the most praised ones on here.

number of leds in each bulb

Sure I've got a couple. I bolted it using a steel L bracket into a rivnut on the crossbar, then routed the wire down the roof rack support and into a waterproof connector behind the hinges - if I ever need to take the rack off I just unplug it and remove it with the rack and light complete...
