    P38A Flat Battery

Update from me on this - i looked into the relay and decided, for my usage, that removing Fuse 15 (for rf receiver), if i leave the car for a few days, is the best solution to meet my needs!

    P38A Bleeding the coolant

Well general fitting reminder then  easier than " listening for air " haha. I heard somewhere that if you rev really really hard the water pump will give extra pressure and clear blockages. Let's just hope the blockage gave out before his gasket !

    P38A Bleeding the coolant

Yep, but blowing through the connected pipe to the nipple doesn't do much If it is blocked. run the engine (obviously not warm and at op temp.) then as you disconnect there should be some coolant coming out of the nipple. Test and repeat. Or just run the engine and see if colant is coming...

    P38A Bleeding the coolant

For future ref - easiest way i find is disconnecting both ends - into cup of water and blow, see bubbles you are happy!

Ye. But if that relay goes down will it lock out the system - I.e if the receiver is not communicating with the becm will it be imobolized ?

    P38A Flat Battery

Thanks Brian - i may do this to mine! So just remotely switching the live to the rf off? If that relay went down, can the car still be opened (by key) and start up, or does the rf receiver cause a lockout if not active? Originally i created a mesh cage for shielding, same effect as having the...

    P38A Flat Battery

Agreed. I removed the antenna from my RF, still got a little drain - just put on a solar charger (I'm yet to house mine in a garage :( ) and let it do its business. To be fair, 10 days is not to bad! RRob i wouldn't install an isolator as i wouldn't want to leave the BECM "dead" every time i...

    P38A Gearbox Fault. No drive!

Fair enough, but plenty of stuff can be done with the volt meter and manual - after all all fault codes are is a change in voltage! Lets try a rudimentary method - engage drive - try to push the vehicle backwards. Do the opposite for reverse and again in neutral. That should clear up with what...

    P38A Gearbox Fault. No drive!

I would suggest you get a diag read on it (only thing is i think prior to '99 the EAT ECU isn't CAN linked to ECM. BECM is obviously throwing something up on the dash). The fault code may help with this - volt read outs for the EAT pins definitely will. However, as you say no drive is selected...

Looking to buy a 1999 Range Rover 4.0

Glad to hear you are going for a petrol not a diesel! I favored the 4.6 as it had a bit more grunt. The '99 models were the change from gems to Thor engine management. I went for a later model, as they tend to be more reliable (with a pinch of salt for a p38!). At the age I would check over the...

    P38A 4.6 V8 MY2000 overheating. Intermittent

Ok. If it was me I would drain the coolant from the block and reflush. i would agree with most on here saying you have an airlock, causing hot spots in the block. By pass the stat (I would just get some spare hose and connect in place - a stat is only for decreased warm up time so no adverse...

    P38A 4.0 Service

Ha people call it lots of things, aux drive belt, alt belt etc. Fan is on a viscous coupling. Ye safe bet to get whole brake system overhauled if they are cracking into it. Bleeding isn't too bad, so long as you follow the steps and have someone pressing the pedal when you say! Haha eye...

    P38A 4.0 Service

Ok Bud, should have had all the oils done at 96k…check the service history. If it hasn't then definitely get all oils (diffs and transmission as you said), along with gearbox filter (i presume its an auto). The only reason i said about the rocker covers is purely due to labour costs. They are...

    P38A 4.0 Service

Hi mate, whats the milage? I've just done my 96,000 If you are at a garage and it is a "weep" from the rocker covers i wouldn't personally pay the labour for that. But yes to all the above. Three amigos go out after 5mph then you are ok. Oh and i did that to my radiator nipple by changing the...

Hi Andy, Did you drain from the block or just whip off bottom hose? How much came out on first drain?
