I can only check the engine ECU for error codes and there are none, I am going to try and check the current drawn by the solenoids to see if one ( or more) is sticking. This might not be very easy as the fault is intermittent.

Is the alternator charging the battery. I assume you have checked the drive belt for the alternator isn't loose.

Any excess pressure should lift the cap on the expansion tank to relieve it, you could try another cap.

I haven't checked for any error codes as the engine management warning light isn't on ! Its a 2001 v6. I will check for codes though just in case. Thanks

I'm not 100% sure but I dont think the rear wiper will work if the electronics thinks the rear window isn't fully shut. If your mechanism is broken it might think it is open. If this info is wrong I am sure someone on here will put me right.
